TWO EARLY STYLE FIAT 124 SPIDER CONVERTIBLES WITH MANY EXTRA PARTS ALL IN ONE LOT!


Im a bit of a Fiat fanatic, and currently have three others in addition to these two which I just picked up, I just want to see them go to someone else who is equally interested. Feel free to ask me any Fiat related questions you may have. I also have many extra parts available in addition to whats for sale in this lot.


History:

These two 124’s (and a 1966 1500 Cabriolet availableseparately) belonged to the estate of an avid collector who likely owned hundreds of cars in his lifetime. At the time of his death, I believe he had 38. These two were garaged together in a detached garage of a home in the Salt Lake City“Sugarhouse” neighborhood, a upscale residential area. The garage was mostly boarded up and full of clutter, looking as if it hadn’t been touched in at least a decade. The’68 was last registered in’80 and the’71 in’79! These are a true pair of Barn Spiders!

Clear Titles, Bills of Sale, and other misc papers are all included!

It appears that theprevious owner, Robert S. hadbegun the rebuild process and got sidetracked by one of his many other projects… Included is the (likely) original engines, heads, and cam towers for two complete motors, PLUS an extra 1438 block, head, and one extra cam tower. I tried my best matching up the casting numbers and labeling them with what block they would have gone with. Most of the parts were in the workshop in the basement, on the benches and shelves. I have organized them into bins and they are ready to ship (industrial black bins not included, but available to purchase exclusive of auction).

Both cars are“early bumper” cars, which include the early style Carello front turn signals which were also used on the Lamborghini Miura. All bumpers are in great to fair condition. Fiat emblems, Pinifarina emblems, headlight trim rings, solid glass, 6 hubcaps (all four for the 71, two for the 68), excellent condition tail lights on the 68 (rare and expensive, but the best style in myopinion!), rough condition on the’71 tails, 1608exhaust cam driven distributor, 1438 block driven distributor, hardtop, top boot cover, and many more parts included!

The 1438 short block turns over freely, but I’drecommend at the least, a small rebuild due to the length of time that it sat.

I spent a little time cleaning up the cars and parts for photos, but I’m honest enough to say that cats had likely lived in the cars at some point because there was a strong cat smell (*update: it has gotten better now since Ive cleaned them and been letting them air out). Not a big deal in my opinion though, as both cars would be in need of a rebuild.


Now on to the cars:

The 1968 is in overall great shape for a car that’s almost 50 years old! There is a little rust here and there. Floor pans are almost completely solid except for a small hole in the drivers sided floor, easily repairable. Had hardtop installed when I got it. I removed it for cleaning and photos. The original top frame is included. 1968 was the first year that the Fiat 124 wasimported into the United States! Original engine plus spare (124AC.040 serials 0043664 & 0154024)

The 1971 is IMO, a donor car, although it could be put back on the road with a full floorpan patch and patch and repair of other body rust. It’s almost nearly complete though, so it makes a great donor car! (You’ll see another’71 behind this one,which is my favorite one so far.) 1608 block needs full rebuild (125A 125BC.040).

If you’ve read this far, you probably know that 1968 Fiat 124 Spiders are rare, and hard to find. I hardly even ever see them come up for auction (and I am ALWAYS looking). There are few barn findexamples like this.

You’re getting two cars which, parted-out, would be worth thousands of dollars alone, but the 1968 restored is worth much much more, especially with the return of the 124 to market this year!
