sales@carplanet.com 1958 FIAT NUOVA 500 AMERICA

One of the nicest Fiat Nuova 500's in existence and very likely the most original America version you will find. This very rare Fiat resided in Marin County for many years with it's original owner. After the original owner's passing, his son sold it to Joe's Fiat Service in Redwood City, CA. It was then owned by a collector in the East Bay area, until we purchased it in 2007 as part of our long term collection. This is a v

ery rare America version with popout headlights and FULL convertible top. Only 18,316 original miles!

Below is a detailed description of the car, followed by two videos and over 60 high resolution photos. Pleaseemail or call us at 415-205-0716, if you have any questions.

BODY, PAINT and TRIM

Having always resided in California, the body remains in excellent original condition. There are no dings or dents. All body panels are original with no patches or welds. No excessive body filler on any body panel. The underside shows little surface corrosion and the floorpans are solid with the original undercoating still present.

The Light Marine Blue (Fiat 433) is a professional repaint completed in 2015 and was well-executed. The front hood and rear engine lid were taken down to bare metal prior to the repaint. Windshield and body trim was removed prior to the repaint.

Original body trim have been preserved throughout, and a very light patina on the chrome accents and emblems, bumper supports, and lenses. New rubber seals around the windshield and rear windows were installed prior to the repaint.

All glass is in good condition with no obvious chips or cracks.

Rarely seen, only a few of the early Fiat Nuova 500's had a convertible roof which extended the entire length of the passenger cabin. Most of them had a convertible roof which extended to only the middle of the passenger cabin. As an example, see the recent sale of ebay item number232135583185, which was for a very original project condition 1960 Fiat Nuova 500. The top is in good condition, with no tears or significant rubbingalong the support framework.

INTERIOR

Rare to see, the interior is all original and remains in good condition throughout. The steering wheel and dash switches and dash lamps are originals. Rubber floor mats are also original and remain in very good condition having always been protected. The door panels show the most wear, with some brownish rings from the window cranks. Top of the rear panel has a small tear. The hooded instrument display consists of a single speedometer gauge with recommended shift points, four indicator lights, and the odometer showing only 18,316 original miles.

ELECTRICALS

Headlights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, interior light, horn and windshield wipers are functional. The starter and generator are functioning fine. All indicator lights within the instrument display and on the dash are functional.

ENGINE and TRANSMISSION

The original air cooled 479cc two-cylinder engine is installed. The number stamping on the engine (110.000 *041738*) matches the data plate in the front trunk wall. The engine starts easily, holds a steady idle and accelerates smoothly. Being a rare US model, the horsepower rating is 16.5 HP, which is approximately 25% higher than the 13 HP Euro version. Within the last 100 miles, the engine received a full tuneup with new oil, plug wires, points, condenser, fan belt, valve cover gasket, breather hose, and rebuilt carburetor.

The original unsynchronized 4 speed transmission is installed and shifts very well. Oil was changed within last 100 miles.

SUSPENSION, WHEELS, BRAKES and TIRES

Steering is smooth and responsive. Left and right tie rod assemblies and center link were replaced less than 100 miles ago. Toe-in was also adjusted, steering box fluid was topped off and front wheel bearing were repacked. Suspension is in very good condition and the ride is very comfortable.

The original wheels were professionally repainted last year.

New Coker reproduction BF Goodrich Silvertown bias-ply tires were installed one year ago and still show sticker residue on the treads.

The brakes were rebuilt under 100 miles ago with the service record showing new master cylinder, new wheel cylinders and new brake hoses. The emergency brake was also adjusted and holds tight.

EXTRA PARTS and DOCUMENTATION

The following extra parts are included: original spare wheel

Documentation includes clear California title, paint record and parts and service records.
