Description of 1968 Ford Galaxie

1968 XL Convertible. The XL for those that don'tknowis similiar to a Galaxie, ut does not say Galaxie at any location. This makes these cars a bit more mysterious especially at shows. The big difference is the flip down headlights ( that work!). The headlight covers are operated byvacuumlike the Corvette or even more like the hidden lights of the Camaro. Is this a special car? I think so. Check out the Marti report. This factory Gulfstream Aqua Paint color car ( this car was repainted) that was born with a 390 V-8 4barrelCarburetor and a 4 speed and what I think is even rarer - a bench seat! I am notcertifyingthe engine and transmission are theoriginalones to the car, ut they very well could be.

We all know the Mustangs and Camaros are getting out of reach. Will this be the next car to climb big time in value? Well it has a lot going for it. It is power topconvertiblethat works, big block 390 V-8 4 barreland dual exhaust and a fun shifting floor mounted 4 speed manual transmission. Check out the Marti report that shows how this car was born. The interior has beentastefullyrecovered in a greyvelour. It was a factoryparchmentvinyl and if you took it back to that this car would be even more stunning.
Car has new within the past year Goodyear tires, as tank and the heads were redone. The engine is very clean with all new belts hoses and it looks nice with the chrome valve covers and aircleaner. Has aedelbrock4bblcarb. There is a slight leak in the exhaust manifold where the exhaust flangedonutconnection is. The horn ring is replaced with two nubs and at this time the horn is not operational.
It has been in North Carolina now for a little over a year and has a very solid underbody with no evident problems ( check out new video of underneath - - rock solid steel original underside). Appears to beoriginalfloor pans. There is only minor bodyputtyin the rear bottom quarters about 3 by 4 inches in the bottomcornerson both driver and passenger sides. The area above the trunk and before the top well also has a bit of putty on either side and it appears smaller than the lower area. No other area have I been able to detect any issues, o you have a very solid car here. The paint on the trunk is somewhat fadedandthe remainder of the car isshiny, ut has many nicks and chips from a older paint job. White power top that works with a glass rear window - top is old and has many holes and tears andshouldbe replaced. Notice the rear bumper on the left side has a good dent in it and it did push on the trunk lid and buckle it a bit, runk closes fine, ut do note this area of the car. The car had spotlights on the sides that have been removed, ut will beincludedin the sale.
I drove the car last weekend a bit over 100 miles. It rides very nice on the highway. I amworkingthrough a bit of hesitation that Ibelieveis in the timing and the car runs andidlesvery good, ut under power I amgettingsome hesitation in 1st and 2nd gear ( just adjusted the timing on 9/28 and itappearsthat the hesitation has gone away!). Shifts through all gears fine and it does not pop out of any gear. The car has a good radiator andoverflowtank andalthoughit was quite warm last weekend it did not run hot at all during the trip.
The car has adjustableair shocksin the rear and a working Am/Fm CD player in the dash with remote. Thehideawayheadlightsare now operational. We fixed them on 9/28/15 to operate as they were intended to do on thevacuum and it was just a loose hose connection that prevented it when I video taped the car.
I like to find cars that are interesting and tinker with them for a while and resell, o here is this neat car that I felt like would be a very good car to drive now and restore later. I am the owner. The title is in my name only and it is a North Carolina title that is free and clear.
The cool factor is here. Yes it is a big car, ut with the hidden headlights and the 4 speed you will becruisingin a classy cool ride! Don't miss this one. It is mypredictionthat you will not beableto find a car like this - with these rare options - for 4 times the starting price in 10 years from now!
Feel free to call me for any other pictures or information on the car. Larry 252-916-4367.
