I'm selling my 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL. This is an exiting car. It obviously needs a paint job and some interior work. But this is a solid car and is one very much worth restoring. It is complete - any chrome trim you don't see I have obtained and is included in the sale. I believe the engine and transmission are original to this car - it all looks correct for a Z-code 390 - but I have not removed the engine or transmission to verify this. All hoses, lamps and accessories in the engine compartment look just the way they should. I purchased this awesome car from the original owner's grandson - almost 1 year ago. I had to give the DMV the original pink title - however, made a color copy of it. It has a clear title, n my name, nd is currently registered and is my daily driver. Mechanically, his car is truly amazing. It is fast, t steers tight and quiet - rides smooth, rakes well, nd is so much fun to drive - I truly am struggling to want to sell it. The car sat for many years until i purchased it last year. I had the carb rebuilt, ew front and rear brakes, rake lines where needed, as tank professionally cleaned and sealed. I had a pair of nice, lack, 964 Thunderbird seats installed - as shown in the photos. I still have the original green front seats which are also included in the sale. The original seats are fine for re-covering - but the material is torn and there are some springs exposed so not too comfortable. It turns out the '64 Galaxie and '64 Thunderbird used identical bucket seat chrome and plastic - its basically the same seat - but with different foam pad and vinyl design. All gages work great, ead lights and tail lights all work great. The doors close perfectly. Do some research - the '64 galaxies have a reputation for being very well built compared to years prior and after. The glass in both doors and rear quarters are in great shape - and roll up and down very easily. The original color which i believe is called "Aqua Marine" is bleeding through all panels - and can be shown very clearly in the door jambs and the underside of trunklid. Apparently, he previous owner thought painting the exterior of the car 'root beer brown' but leaving the interior 'aqua marine' seemed like a good idea in the 70s. (i've actually seen this color combination a couple of times over the years). Aqua Marine is an unusual color but would look pretty bitchin in a nice restoration. Rust - there is a little. I have found rust in two locations only. The rear window has some visible rust along the low side of the glass frame. I removed the chrome trim in order to show the limit of the rust. When the chrome trim is installed you can just barely see there is some rust underneath it. The other location of rust can be seen in the passenger side rear wheel lip. Dirt must have collected there and held some moisture for a few years. The rust bled thru there so it will need to be fixed. The total length of the rust in this area is about 2 to 3 inches long. So, certainly cannot say 'rust free'. But i believe that is it. The floors appear to be as solid as I have ever seen. The original hard rubber pads (which were installed below carpeting) are in almost new condition. It seems to me the car's interior never saw moisture. Body - the body panels all fit great - as mentioned the doors close well, nd fit well. The only problem area I have seen in the entire car is the front drivers side top fender - where the gunsight should be. There is a small dent there - apparently something must have fallen on that side of the car. I have a replacement gunsight/ornament included. This would be an easy area to fill with bondo - however, ts not at all difficult to remove the fender and have the dent properly removed. I oversprayed some primer as shown on the trunk lid. Also, o the right of the trunklid there appears to be some old bodywork/ filler that is starting to expose due to thin paint in that area. I know cars that need a paint job do not always do well here on ebay. This is the reason I am starting the bidding relatively high - i usually start bids at $200. I paid $3000 for the car when it didn't run - now it runs great - and is one of the most exhilarating cars i have driven in a long time. Besides many hours and over $1,000 invested I would break even at $4,000. I'm not sure what the car is worth without a nice paint job and interior - we will see.
