Description of 1974 Ford Other Pickups

1974 Ford F-250 High Boy 4x4 - one owner - 70k miles

Offered for sale, at NO RESERVE, I have a very nice, original, Ford High Boy, with 70k original miles. I've been rescuing old farm trucks and finding them new homes for awhile now, but I usually don't buy fords. I'm actually saying the same thing twice, now in the last couple of weeks. Maybe I'm getting converted, who knows! Anyway, its hard even for a Chevy guy to pass up a Ford if it is this cool. The last one was a 56' Cabover, this one is an incredibly straight and rust free high boy. I actually had to Google high boy to make sure that's what this is. 1974. 360 2bbl engine, divorced transfer case, lift blocks, and power steering. Sorry - not an A/C truck.

This truck came from a farm here in north central Kansas, and I purchased it from the original owner, and have the original 1974 title to go with it! This was used for chores around the farm, as well as general transportation. A few inches of rain, and you needed this baby to get to the grocery store in 1974. This truck was babied its whole life, and stored inside until the last few years. By 2008, it was no longer being used for transportation, so a sprayer was mounted in the back. The truck was parked shortly after this, as they realized it was more efficient to spray with their tractor. I actually went to their farm to look at a different truck, but when I saw this - well I own it and not the other one!

So- the truck hadn't run in about 8 years. The owner said it was running fine when he parked it. I believe him. I brought the truck back home and did the usual things to get an old truck running. Fresh gas, fresh oil, filters, etc. I will say, I did have to repair 3 wires that mice had chewed through - ignition, oil pressure, and temp, but no big deal, as well as a few plug wires. The engine fired up,it has good oil pressure, stays cool, but it definitely needs some carb work, as it idles rough. It smoothes out when you rev the engine, but idles rough. It also feels like it's running out of fuel under a load, you have to feather the gas pedal. It also has a sticky lifter. When I first started it, all the lifters clattered, obviously, from sitting this long, then they quit, then one or two started again, so - 75% chance its going to need some lifters, but they might straighten up after driving some. So - basically - 70k mile truck that has sat for 8 years, and needs they typical things a truck that has sat for 8 years needs. The pervious owner said everything was in working order and the trans, transfer case, and front and rear diffs seem fine, although I would recommend changing fluids, simply due to age. Brakes work, but should be properly bled and checked over. Headlights work, taillights don't. Tires are bias ply, but decent, and surprisingly not very weather checked. The seat is wore on driver side, as are most older 4x4's, from climbing in and sliding out. This truck even has 3 out of 4 its original hubcaps. This was a farm truck, so there are a few dings here and there, and when the sprayer was put in, the tailgate got misplaced. I was tempted to polish the paint, on the truck, but decided to leave it like it came form the farm, as it looks pretty nice the way it is. I haven't been watching these trucks until I bought this one, but it appears you would be hard pressed to find original truck this rust free & straight, just plan on spending a couple days tinkering with it to get it into shape to be a dependable driver and some time cleaning it up, as I have not detailed the truck, just washed off, vacuumed out, etc. It will need some more cleaning from sitting on the farm all these years. And remember that things get old, dry out, etc. So things that work now, may need attention in a week, or month, etc. I'm used to dealing with old trucks, I just want to make sure you know what you are getting. I have 100% positive feedback, and want to keep it that way, so please ask any questions prior to bidding. Cort 620-786-5172. I am also easy to work with storage as long as paid for in a timely manner. I'm happy to help in any way I can. Thank you and good luck.
