Description of 1936 Ford Convertible Sedan |
|
This is one of the few remaining 5,601 1936 Ford Convertible Sedans produced. According to my research, this is one of 117 remaining trunk models, and one of 195 in total. The car was originally registered in Michigan, and abandoned in New York City in 1956. The previous owner first saw it parked at a lower Manhattan police station, beforedelinquents set it on fire. This is how most of the upholstery was lost. It was towed to an encumbrance yard in the Bronx, where derelict vehicles were sold to junk auto dealers. The previous owner bought the car for $15 at the age of 26. In his ownership, he cut the steering wheel lock so he could steer. He towed it home to Brooklyn, and stored it in the neighbor's garage for fifteen years, for $10 per month. It stayed dormant while he married and raised four children. In 1972, he moved to Pennsylvania with the Ford in tow. In that time, he also purchased a parts car, providing spare and replacement parts for many hard-to-find Convertible-Sedan-Only pieces and those destroyed by the fire. Unfortunately, the previous owner was never able to fulfill his lifelong dream of completing this vehicle. He recently passed away, and I was contacted to see if I was interested in it. I purchased this with the intention of completing the car, though a recent farm purchase is now my main priority. I don't have the time for this project, and would rather use the funds on the property. Since I bought it, I cleaned everything out of the car and went through the parts to see what I had or still needed. Fortunately, it came with many duplicate parts from the previous owner's donor vehicle, so damaged items can be replaced. I removed damaged parts and replaced them with their solid counterparts. All of the sheet metal is original 1936 Ford, in what appears to be Cordoba Tan and red pinstripes, though it looks slightly greener than I'm used to. The fenders, grill surround, headlights, hubcaps, etc. are black with faint green pinstripes. The replacement dashboard is brown, and it comes with the rare factory radio controls, with Ford radio and RCA radio.Adding black fenders to the front made the tan grill surrounds look out of place, so the black ones went on as well. The rear fenders are off of a standard sedan. The driver's door, and both hood tops have remnants of auction-lot lettering. The car includes the Convertible-Sedan-only window frames, with only one solid pane of glass. Three of the four windows move up and down; the driver's rear frame is bent, stuck in the door. The posts that go between the front and rear windows are there. One needs the attachment post at the bottom, but there is one to duplicate from. There are extra tan grill surrounds with headlights attached.At the insurance auction in 1956, the car was picked up with a steel cable sling, wrapped around the rear of the body, damaging the rear doors.The top is oiled and folds fine. All four garnish moldings are included. Clear title in my name. This car still needs restoration work to your tastes. The previous owner and I have accumulated lots of extra parts that are available, including but not limited to: spare set of windows/framesengine, radiator, transmission, grill surrounds, flawless hood, headlights, brake lights, intake manifolds, heads, generator, dome light, shock absorbers, springs, steering column, hubcaps, wheels, spare tire mount, distributor body, and more, as seen in the photos.
