Description of 1989 Ford Mustang Saleen

This is a factory black 1989 Saleen Mustang number 78 with only 84K original miles and 1 of only 18 cars like this. This is real Saleen and you can call Saleen headquarters and talk to Saleen Authentication department and give them the last six of this cars VIN number (119895), and they will verify the car over the phone. It also has a clean title and a clean Carfax history.

The mustang has been a great icon since 1964.5 and shortly after their introduction they were the perfect platform for road racers, and drag cars. The Shelby Mustangs were built and history was made making some of the most sought after muscle cars today. Steven Saleen started racing and building Saleen Mustangs with Fords support in 1984. In essence, Saleen is the Shelby of the 80’s and 90’s and still continue to build some of the fastest and best handling Mustangs to date. These Saleens have a great following and until you own one you will finally understand what you have been missing. They are a low production car and just a joy to own and drive. 1989 was a great year for the Mustang because of engine modifications that Ford made to the 5.0L (302 ci). This was the first year Ford introduced the mass air flow meter which made a huge difference when it came to horse power and personal engine modifications. I’ve owned this car for 5 years and it has been a great car to own. These cars are getting harder and harder to find in this condition and with this low of mileage. The Fox Saleen’s are very popular and have turned into instant classics

This car came with the upgraded Saleen 5 star wheels which look great compared to the standard mesh or basket weave style. This Saleen was one of the first 1989 cars to be made, hence the number 78, which you’ll notice has the 1984-1988 graphics on it. Around the first 100 Saleens for 1989 received these previous graphics. This car is in very original condition. The interior has the original grey Flofit seats front and rear with the Saleen embroidered door panels. It also has the Saleen tachometer and speedometer with the Momo steering wheel which has cruise control. The car has the original EFI 302 V8 coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission which has the Saleen installed Hurst shifter. The car has the 8.8 rear axle with 3:55 to 1 gearing and posi-traction which is again Saleen original. The suspension is all original Racecraft which includes: strengthening strut tower brace, lower K-member brace, huge sway bars front and rear with the urethane pivot bushings, specific rate front and rear coil springs, Monroe Formula GP rear shocks, front struts, and horizontal axle damper. Another huge improvement that is all original Saleen equipment is the brakes. This car has the 5 lug 4 wheel disc brake package which never came on any Ford factory fox body mustang. The closest was the 1993 cobras but they were still 4 lugs.

There is no rust on this Saleen and the underneath is very clean with no rust bubbles or weak spots. The car does have a set of Kenny Brown sub frame connectors on it to stiffen up the chassis. There are a few rock chips and some minor scratches and small cracks (on the urethane parts of the car) in the paint but from 10 feet away it looks very clean. I can’t show every little thing wrong with the paint, so I have showed the worst of it in the pictures. Though most people don’t notice what I have shown in the pictures. All of the body panels are all original and line up very nicely. The doors also line up and shut very nicely. Remember this car has been driven, and is a nice low mileage driver/weekend cruiser. The rear air dam is a great condition. The rocker panels are in good shape with no breaks in the urethane and one minor crack in the paint. Many of the original rocker panels on these cars get damaged or messed up but these are fine. The rear wing has a small crack which you should see in the photos; otherwise, it is in good condition. The front air dam is undamaged with some spider webbing in the paint. Again there is no urethane damage to the air dam. They only other places of concern are some small cracks are at the bottom corners of the head lights. Again none of these are affecting the structure or condition of the urethane underneath. I believe this is just due to age. Please remember this car is nearing 28 years old and for that age this car is in amazing condition.

The only things not original to the car is the upper intake manifold which you will notice in the photographs. I do have the original upper intake for the car and it’s in nice condition which will be included with the car. I also had to replace the ignition coil because the original wore out. I’ve replaced the ignition wires, as well, with some Ford Racing ones when I did a tune up on the car. It also has a CAT back exhaust with some Flow Master mufflers, but all 4 catalytic converters are still in the car, as well as, all emission control devices. I also do not have the original Pioneer deck that came with the car or the floor mats (If this car even came with them in the first place when it was new). Neither came with the car when I purchased it 5 years ago. The alternator has been upgraded, but I also have the original which will be included with the car. The car also has 4 (nearly new) Good Year tires.

The only things wrong with the car not mentioned before are the power window switches are worn and spotty. They sometime work fine some days and others don’t. The power lock switches will need to be replaced. The rear trunk cover doesn’t retract very well anymore and the ash tray cover doesn’t close all the way. The A/C is all there and functions but doesn't blow cold anymore so it will need a recharge.

Again this is a used classic car and it’s almost 28 years old. Make sure to read all of the description and view all of the pictures provided.
