Description of 1964 Ford Thunderbird

1964 Ford Thunderbird Convertible For sale is a very nice 1964 Thunderbird ragtop with the 390 Z code V8 with an automatic transmission. The odometer shows 51. xx miles. I have no idea if that is original miles. This beautiful car drives as nice as it looks. When I bought this car a few years ago. it needed a lot of updating but I fell in love with how it drives. So I bought it with the intention of just driving it as it was. But as usual. I couldn’t leave it alone. I have done a “frame on” restoration of most of the car. Below is all the things that has been done to the car. New Paint in the original color of Silver Mink Metallic New interior in the original Silver Blue color including new seat covers with new cushions. new door panels. new carpet. and floor mats. New Convertible Top is an un-original blue color that I think looks better with the interior and paint than either black or white. New Trunk mats and complete side pieces New brake booster and master cylinder. wheel cylinders. and shoes. Rebuilt transmission New undercoating. we stripped most of the old off and re-sprayed it. New hydraulic hoses for the convertible mechanism New weather stripping for the trunk area New weather stripping for the doors and windows Below are some of the options this car has. Power steering with swing away column Power brakes Power windows (a little slow but they work) Power door locks Power driver’s seat Reclining passenger seat Air conditioning : My mechanic said it appears it has been converted to 134A. It has the 134A fittings on it. When you turn on the a/c. the compressor comes on and cool air blows out the vents. It is in the low 60's here today so I'm not sure if it is just the cool fresh air coming out or conditioned air. But. it does kick on and worst case scenario. it will need charged. All the gauges and the speedometer work. all the lights work The convertible mechanism is working perfectly. We went through the whole system and replaced a lot of old wires and cleaned and replaced the switches and relays that were not working as they should. It also has all new hydraulic hoses. When the car was painted. they repaired some small rust areas behind the rear wheels. The rust was cut out and new patch panels put in. You’d never know it. Here are some of the things that are not perfect on the car. The bumpers are not show quality. The rear is very good but the front bumper has some small dings and scratches. The radio is not the original one. It now has a Custom Autosound unit. that looks like an original radio but with modern technology inside. We did put in new speakers. front and rear. The interior trim has some minor pitting. Very common on these cars. It just didn’t seem bad enough to me to have it restored. The exhaust is not new but in good condition. No leaks. Mufflers look like they might have been replaced in the last few years. The trunk area had some minor rust issues but we repaired it. The whole trunk pan has been painted in POR-15 to keep any rust from ever coming back there again. The steering wheel is not original. I have the completely restored original that goes with it. Because of my love of too many cheeseburgers. fries. and beer. I barely fit behind the wheel using the original wheel. So I put this one on to give me a little extra room! What I am selling is a “very nice Driver quality” car. You will not be embarrassed to take it to your local car show or cruise in. It is an absolute blast to take it out and just enjoy the drive. This car has a lot of class and draws a lot of attention. Below is a description from Hagerty Price Guide for condition. I would rate this Thunderbird a strong #3. It really does a good job of describing my car: #3 cars could possess some. but not all of the issues of a #4 car. but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new. correct interior. #3 cars drive and run well. but might have some incorrect parts. These cars are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses. and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws. "Good" is the one word description of a Hagerty Price Guide #3. #4 cars are daily drivers. with flaws visible to the naked eye. The chrome might have pitting or scratches. the windshield might be chipped. Paintwork is imperfect. and perhaps the fender has a minor dent. The interior could have split seams or a cracked dash. No major parts are missing. but the wheels could differ from the originals. or the interior might not be stock. A #4 car can also be a deteriorated restoration. "Fair" is the one word that describes a Hagerty Price Guide #4 car. I am selling it because I have another project in waiting and don’t have enough room for it. Please bid only if you are a serious buyer. Any bidders with less than 5 feedback must send me their contact info so that I can verify who you are. If you don’t. I reserve the right to cancel your bid. Sorry. but that seems to be the only way to keep bogus bidders out. This is a 50 year old car. It is not perfect. I would recommend that you inspect the car before bidding. Payment will be by wire transfer. cash. or a certified cashiers check. Down payment can be made through Paypal. Here is what the Trim tag says. Body - 76A Color - E Trim - 51 Date - 14G DSO - 61 Axle - 1 Trans - 4Some code books don't show an "E" paint code for 1964 but it is Silver Mink. I'm not sure if that makes it rare or a special order color or why some books just didn't have that info. But that is the original color for this car.
