Description of 1959 Ford Fairlane Galaxie

1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Galaxie

retractable hardtop

This is a good retractable Ford Skyliner project car for restoration. The car needs sheet metal repairs, but does have a lot going for it. The hood, front fenders, top, rear deck, grille, and especially the massive frame are in very good condition. The car does need lower rear quarter panels replaced, some rocker panel repairs as well. There is some rust through at the very rear of the spare tire well, about 6 inches. Both of the doors will need some repairs, driver has a dent that could probably be fixed, passenger door may need a full door skin. Someone before me got correct floor pans for replacement but just trimmed them a bit and pop-riveted them in, so they will need to be done correctly.

The interior will need to be refinished. I have the rear window and the window frame. All of the retractable top mechanisms are there, with a spare bank of solenoids, and one extra drive motor. I have 2 original style wheels, and a set of 4 chrome wheels as well. I have a very nice instrument cluster in addition to the one in the dash.

The car has a later model Ford 390 engine installed that was running up to a couple of years ago. I have not tried to start the engine.

The side glass will need to be replaced, as will the windshield. All of the special interior trim for the retractable hardtop is there. I do not have a radiator nor drive shaft, and I do not have the side trim for the doors and front fenders. I do not have the headlight mounting components. There may be other small parts missing as well.

The car has the stainless skirts and the rear wheel trim. The front bench seat passenger side rear section has very poor springs. It could be repaired or replaced.

While there is a lot of work to be done, the repairs are mostly standard sheet metal replacement panels, normal interior work, and not many parts to find. The price for the car will allow for a modest startup investment ending with one of the iconic Ford convertible of the 50's, worth quite a bit.

Best yet, if you purchase the car for the "Buy It Now" price, I will deliver it to you for no cost within 500 miles of Cleveland Ohio. Car will need to be paid for before delivery. Clear Ohio title in my name. Call Ted at 440-478-6801 if you have any questions.
