Description for Ford Torino 1970

1970 was quite a year for the Torino. While it had already been offered to the public for a couple of years, until this year it wasn't actually a model unto itself, but rather a variety of Ford Fairlane. Ford recognized that the increasingly discriminating car buying public wanted an option more spacious than the Mustang but far sportier than its large car offerings, and borrowed from aeronautical design to give them what they were looking for. Armed with an... unusually potent drivetrain, this 1970 Ford Torino has undeniable power to go with its early '70s charm, and to drive it is to be infatuated with it. Put this Torino alongside its predecessor from just a year before and it only takes a quick glance to see the results of Ford's extensive redesign to commemorate its promotion to a stand-alone model. No longer the relatively conservative-looking version of Blue Oval full-sized cars, with its lengthy hood, relatively short deck lid, and flowing rear roofline, it looks every bit the part of an expansive muscle car, yet its substantial wheelbase, matched by a nice, wide track, provides just the luxurious overtones Ford was aiming for. Its two-tone color scheme - with vibrant red covering most of the body and black extending across its scooped hood - works well on this vintage Ford, with the base color a slightly lighter take on the original candy apple red offered this year. Fortunately for a car having seen nearly 50 years of service, the front grille carries no observable damage from asphalt debris and the front and rear bumpers sit nice and level with just some slight patina on the surfaces. Open the generously-proportioned driver's side door and climb inside and you'll see a black vinyl interior that's largely been left in stock configuration, but carries some inspired add-ons to help get the most out of the capabilities this Torino has. The high-backed bucket seats show no obvious tears or wear marks and retain their original shape. They straddle a great looking center console that offers additional storage space and convenient cupholders and seamlessly incorporate a trio of AutoGage gauges just in front of the well-placed shifter. A sizable ProComp tach sits mounted on the steering column to monitor revs during more spirited driving, while the small rectangular display mounted just above hints at still another add-on under the hood to boost this classic's already very potent performance. Are you one of the many classic car enthusiasts who subscribe to the notion that "there's no replacement for displacement"? Good. So were the builders of this Torino. A massive 460 cubic inch V8 sits in the engine bay, outfitted with a Trick Flow intake manifold and MSD distributor and spark plug wires to amplify its performance. And it's running great. Do you enjoy both the adjustability and all-weather dependability that comes with electronic fuel injection? You're in luck again, as a FiTech fuel injection system, monitored by that telltale gauge on the windshield, sits in place of the expected carburetor. This very powerful big block is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission for a truly compelling driving experience, and an aluminum radiator, matched with dual electric fans, sits up front to keep temperatures in check. This Ford classic sits on skinny Weld Racing Rims in front and wide Mickey Thompson rims in back, outfitted with M/T Sportsman tires on all four corners, the rears which are brand new.
