Description of 1979 Ford Fairmont

This is a 1979 Ford Fairmont that my wife drove to work for 22 years. She bought a new car, so this car needs to go to someone that needs a dependable and affordable work car. It probably should be restored.

These Fairmonts are becoming very hard to find and quite uncommon. Fairmonts share the same "Fox Body" platform as Mustangs of the same era. Everybody seemed to save the Mustangs but not the Fairmonts, so they are far less commonly seen.

This car has a 2.3l 4 cylinder engine which seems to run good and get good mileage. The automatic transmission was rebuilt a couple of years ago at a cost of around $500, (have receipt). The interior is fine and we installed a hard dash cover a few years ago to cover the original dash. It has a CD player installed. Lights work, horn, gauges, etc.The tires are decent and the battery is newly purchased from Interstate. The light blue portion of the car was painted at Maaco about ten years ago.

I am not sure of the actual mileage, but the odometer shows 61,387, which is not actual mileage. The car was originally a 2.3l 4 cylinder factory car, but we had a 30,000 mile replacement 2.3 engine put in the car around 15 years ago. I think the engine came from a wrecked Ford Ranger.

However, the car is quite rusty in doors and fenders, trunk pan, etc. A few years ago,I purchased a rust free parts car from Colorado with most needed parts that I will offer to the buyer of the car first for $400, if they areinterested, (very hard to find parts cars for these), before I list it separately on Ebay. The parts car has a Ford 200 inline 6 cylinder engine and an auto transmission, but I am not sure their condition as I purchased the parts car for the body parts and any other needed parts that may have arisen.

Other than rust issues, the only real problem with this car is the brakes, which need attention. The brakes worked fine when she parked the car, but now the pedal goes to the floor. I am sure that it's an easy fix, (wheel cylinder, brake line?), but it will need to be addressed before the car is driven on the highway. It can be driven onto a trailer or you are welcome to attempt to repair it here at my house after purchase.

The car is located in Crossville, TN which is right on Interstate 40 between Knoxville and Nashville.

The price is $1450 cash with a$200 non-refundable deposit due within 48 hours of auction close and the remainder in cash at pickup. Please NO bids from any buyers with less than 10 feedbacks.

The car can sit here for a reasonable length of time until the buyer can have it picked up. I strongly suggest an inspection to make sure you are happy with the car before you bid.Email any questions or concerns.
