Description of 1962 Ford E-Series Van Falcon

Offering up one of my vans. I have been driving early Econolines since 1972 and have owned dozens of them. When I get a good one I use it as a daily driver till all the windows are covered with glass etching and the interior is done and I decide to pass it on and replace it with another one. I have a 67 ready to take over when this one is gone. This van has never let me down in 7 years of regular use. Hate to see it go but I am ready to start building another one.
Exterior
This van has never had a repaint. Getting harder and harder to find original paint. When I got it the nose had a primer area between the headlights so I fogged in some original color touch-up paint. The damaged area was repaired old school with nubs welded on the pull it out and the nubs are still there. There is no rust through anywhere on this van. Lots of surface rust/patina though. It is ready for a clear coat or a repaint. The name on the front was "OL TRAPPER". The owner sold that brand of sausage out of the back of the van at fairs and markets. He had a cooker in the back and there is a trap door on the side for a power cord to pass through. It is permanently sealed now as a gas station attendant pried on it thinking it was the filler. Because the original owner folded the rear doors wide open he broke three of the hinge pins. They were replaced with bolts and nuts which have aged nicely to match the patina of the rest of the van. Even the original license plates match the weathered and beat look. We don't salt the roads in Oregon and this van has been in this area it's entire life. The roof and dash have never been cut! Even though it had other mirrors mounted at some point in time, it still has the rare stock small mirror arms. Front bumper has been lowered. 70's era fiberglass visor over windshield.
The roof rack is from a 70's station wagon.The cool aftermarket stainless steel wind deflectors on the rear corners were there when I bought the van. All door locks have their trap door covers and work with a single key. All window and door rubber is original. The windows are all etched with various artwork. One window is dedicated to jokers, one has female super heroes, and others have monsters, animals, cartoons and beautiful women. Over 50 hours of glass etching involved in making this an eye catching van.
Inside is fairly new. Headliner is Scooby Doo quilt material. All the walls, doors and ceiling have mahogany paneling under the material. Front seats are from a 70's Dodge van and are very comfortable. They have some wear as seen in pics. I left the front floor bare to show there is no rust there either. All switches and lights work. Signals cancel, too. Heater is noisy but works. Windshield wiper switch takes a wiggle to get working sometimeswhen it hasn't been used in a while. Washer pump is foot operated and works great. Like I said, I drive it everywhere and like to have things working.
Drivetrain is a newer 200 inch 6. It is tired and smokes a little but it has been that way since I bought it. It has a Pertronix in it. Van does not leak or drip anything. Tranny shifts fine. Rear end has a little whine. Brakes, wheel cylinders and soft lines are all new in the last year.
Suspension work? Yeah, it has been lowered. Axles were placed on top of the springs and the rear has small air bags. Onboard compressor and tank under driver side. Automatic shut off on compressor has quit so I just pump it up till it is at full height and then turn off the switch. Floor was cut out between the rear wheel wells for the bags and to get the shocks more vertical. The wheel wells were left stock and they just clear the top of the tires when fully lowered. It actually rides pretty nice for a 90 inch wheelbase with two solid axles. It has the factory front sway bar. There is no wander or bump steer and it tracks straight on the freeway. I don't take it on the freeway much as 60 mph is about the limit with a little old motor and the stock 4:11 rear gears. They were never meant for freeway flying anyway. I did do a 40 mile freeway run a couple weeks ago so it is capable but it is low and slow.
The van come with two full sets of tires plus more. It has the stock 13" wheels with dog dish caps and little white wall tires. These need restored or replaced. The wheels on it are Vintique 15" customs. The tires are older BFG T/A Touring radials that are still in nice shape. There are also two more stock 13" wheels that are powder coated red and have new 60 series radials on them that I put on the front sometimes to get it lower. They are stored under the bed. The Vintique wheels have the only true rust on them. Cheap steel or cheap paint but they all have flaking paint. Caps are nice.
Guess I've covered everything good so far. I get waves and comments everywhere I go. It has won rat rod trophies at car shows. It is fun to let the air out at stoplights. With the stock 13's it really sits low but I like the way the 15's fill the wells. To lower the front any more would require modifying the shift rods.
The van has at least 190,000 miles on it. I doubt it rolled over twice but I figure it did at least one time. No guarantee on mileage on van or engine.
As for the bad, there are a few things. As I said, the engine is tired. Might live forever as is if you treat it nice. These little sixes are plentifuland easy to work on. Because the window and door rubber is all original, it will leak when you wash it or in a bad rain storm. I only wash it a couple times a year. All rubber is available aftermarket. The driver door vent window pivot is broken. I have a replacement window but never got around to fixing it as I plannedto replace the felt and rubber for the regular windows at the same time. That said, the front windows rattle. There are a few other squeaks, rattles and groans when you drive it, but it is is a 50 year old unibody so that is to be expected.
Sold as-is for obvious reasons. $250 deposit due within 48 hours. Balance due before I let it go. Prefer a bank transfer. I am in Portland and can deliver it to a shipper in this area.
