Description of 1963 Ford Falcon Futura

As to myself, I am a (68) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that is at 100% with (1,208) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers.

Some Brief History on the 1963 Ford Falcon.

In contrast to the large, gas-thirsty cars of the fifties, the 1960 Ford Falcon was small, light, and economical. Immediately after its introduction in the fall of 1959, it became Ford's best-selling model, far outselling rival compacts from Chrysler and General Motors. The Ford Falcon would see many changes over the next ten years of production.

Post WW2 America enjoyed a booming economy, with cheap gas and bigger and faster cars. During this time, car manufacturers like Crosley Motorsfound that American consumers had little interest in compact cars. However, after a mild economic recession in 1958, interest began to grow. Ford Motor Company felt there was a large enough market for a small car sized between the Volkswagon Beetleand the standard Ford. Research and development began in 1957, with a full-scale clay model finalized the following year. Wheelbase was set at 109.5 inches.

In response to the sales of the sporty Chevy Corvair Monza, Ford came up with the 1961 Falcon Futura, a two-door sedan with Thunderbird-like bucket seats and console interior. The 1961 Futura model was easily identifiable by having three ports on the rear fenders. Falcon sales continued to outsell the Corvair for a second near-record year.

A re-designed body for 1963 gave the Falcon sculpted side panels and a squared-off roof. Joining the lineup were a four-door Futura and convertible model. Vehicle weight on the Falcon was minimized in two major areas. First, a unit-construction body was used, which eliminated a heavy, conventional full-size frame. The second measure was in design of a new engine, the "Thriftpower Six" (also known as the Falcon Six).

The Ford Falcon stayed in production until 1970. Numerous models have been built off the Falcon platform, including the Mercury Comet, Ford Maverick, Granada/Monarch, and the Lincoln Versailles. The Falcon Sprint was the basis for the 1964 Mustang.

Now for your consideration is my 1963 Ford Falcon Futura. This 6-cylinder automatic Falcon is a one of a kind in good overall condition. The paint and the interior is considered to be in good condition. The engine compartment is clean along with the trunk. Looking at the undercarriage, you will see that this is the one area that will need attention if the Futura is to be taken to the next level. All gauges, lights and instruments are in good working order including the upgraded stereo radio. (An original AM radio is installed but not functional.) The Falcon starts, stops, shifts and runs fine. Remember, this is a non-power assisted brake Falcon so even though the brakes are very good but you still have to put some effort into it when stopping. There are tons of early Falcons out there but try to find another one like this. If they are out there, I haven't seen them for sale.

FYI, this car is mileage exempt.

Exterior: The 1963 Ford Falcon Futura is quite nice and is a very popular Heritage Burgundy exterior paint car. The paint is good and the trim shows very well. There are added features but I do not know when they were added. There is a Continental Kit added as well as fender skirts and lake pipes. The lake pipes were added with no mufflers so I added exhaust silencing inserts that help lower the sound. (They could be removed.) The front and rear bumpers are in very good condition. The door handles and the side mirrors are also in very good condition. Marker lights, tail lights and bezels are all very good with no cracks or pitting. All glass is considered to be in very good condition with no cracks. Tires and hub caps are in very good condition. All exterior lights are working including the headlights, tail lights, blinkers, etc.

Interior: The interior is in good condition. No cracks or warping with the dash pad. Headliner, seats and door panels are driver quality. The carpet is considered driver quality. Seat belts are not present. Door locks and windows are in good working order. There is an aftermarket, newer stereo system under the dash that works and plays through the two rear speakers. The actual dash radio area now has an original Ford AM radio inserted. Not connected and not tested. All gauges are in working order as well as the heater, wipers, horn, dome light, etc.

Engine: The 6-cylinder engine starts easily and runs very good. Split headers were added to accommodate the lake pipes. There are no messy engine leaks or annoying exhaust puffing sounds within this Falcon's engine compartment and the overall look is clean and neat in appearance.

Trunk: The trunk is in good overall condition with a spare but the jack assembly is missing.

Undercarriage: What can I say about the undercarriage accept it isn't great. The major structural areas such as the frame, rails, exhaust, mechanical components are fine. However, when the Falcon was somewhat restored, the owner decided to use the sheet metal parts inserted from the top but not to cut out the old sheet metal areas from the bottom. Please look at the undercarriage photos and see for yourself.
