Description of 1972 Ford Mustang

Up for grabs is a fresh from SoCal 72 Mach 1 Mustang with the desirable Q code 351 Cobra Jet engine. This car spent it's entire life in sunny southern California until I brought it here to Texas just last month. I purchased the car here in an eBay auction with good intentions of restoring it to it's former glory but I have come to the realization that I don't have time to get to this car for a while and I need space for another car I am finishing up. Besides the CJ engine. the car was ordered with some good options including A/C (missing everything underhood). C6 transmission. factory stereo ( not sure if AM/FM or 8 track-has factory door speakers). fold down rear seat. deluxe Mach 1 interior. gauge package with working tachometer and 3. 25 rear. The color is Gold Glow with black interior. The car had the Boss striping as evidenced by the remains of the door stripe on the inside lip. I think it will be a very striking car when done. It currently has 15 inch Magnums which are in decent shape and could be cleaned up nice for a daily driver. I also have a new rear deck spoiler to go with the car. According to previous owner. the C6 has be recently rebuilt and peeking underneath the car it appears to be very clean with new tail shaft seal in it. It shifts out fine. I was told it has the original engine but I have not been able to verify that. From what I have read about the Q code engine it is supposed to have a dual point distributor and the intake was set up for a spread bore carburetor. This car has neither. It is a factory 4V engine however. It runs but feels like only on 7 cylinders. It may run fine with a good tune. Points look old as well as the cap and rotor. It has what appears to be a newly installed exhaust system with turn downs out the back. It originally had chrome tips under the valence. Pics show the cut outs. As I said earlier. transmission shifts fine and brakes feel solid. The power steering is not working. It looks like a bad pump since there was no fluid in it. Being a California car. this car is very solid and except for one spot on the lower passenger side quarter panel it is rust free. Don't let the paint job fool you. I guess some knucklehead thought he would get a head start on the restoration by sanding a little and slapping a little rattle can primer on it. Take a close look at the trunk and floor pan pictures and you will see how solid it is. I have included a picture of the spot on the quarter panel. Door and fender gaps are like they were when it left the factory. NO rot in pinch welds or door seams. NO rot underhood anywhere. NO evidence of collision ever. The interior needs restoration as well. Both door panels need replacing in my opinion. Has a single crack in the dash pad and the driver's seat upholstery needs replacing. The passenger seat and rear seat look very serviceable. Looks like the car sat outside a lot and the nice SoCal sun took a toll on the rear interior quarter panels. It also probably explains why the paint was so sun baked and faded. If you are a fan of the big Mustangs. this will be a very nice project to tackle and if you turn your own wrenches it can be a good money maker as well as these cars are starting to escalate in value. Not uncommon to see restored loaded Q code cars going for high twenties to low thirties. I am trying to come as close as I can recouping my investment and not trying to flip it to make a buck so the reserve is fair for a car with good bones.
