Description of 1958 Ford Custom 300

1958 Ford Custom 300 . This is a great restoration project that needs minor work to be finished completely. This car had been in storage for 30 years with no drive train until 2016. Since that time a 292 V8 - 2bbl motor from a 1960 Ford F-100 was fitted as well as a Cruise-O-Matic 3 speed from a 1959 Fairlane wagon. It starts, idles and runs very well and the transmission shifts smoothly. The 292 was fitted with the good exhaust manifolds that dump out at the rear, and true dual 2 inch exhaust with glasspacks were installed. New fuel pump, new oil pump, new water pump, fresh rebuild on the Motorcraft 2100 carburetor, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and Pertronix electronic ignition and Pertronix coil. New radiator hoses, new heater core, and a new Champion aluminum radiator keeps this car cool. The fuel tank has been cleaned out and lined, the brake lines and fuel lines were flushed out completely, The brakes are factory 4 wheel drum, completely rebuilt with new shoes, wheel cylinders and hardware as well as upgraded to a dual circuit master cylinder. The factory 9 inch rear axle was disassembled, cleaned, new axle bearings and seals installed and fresh 80/90 gear oil, The front suspension was disassembled and rebuilt with new ball joints, front shocks, control arm bushings and new front wheel bearings. The electrical system has been upgraded with a GM 1 wire alternator conversion, new battery, battery cables, and a triple gauge cluster below the dash monitors the coolant temp, oil pressure and voltage. The tires all match and have good tread but they should be replaced due to age. A new driveshaft was custom made with new u-joints and balanced.
The body was sandblasted on the outside and the small amount of body rust was cut out and replaced with metal. The rear floorpans were also replaced, and the car was painted within the last year. There is still some rust on the inside of the front fenders where it doesn't show behind the headlight bezels. It has been neutralized and will not spread or create a structural concern. All glass is original with no cracks, and all new window seals and weather stripping has been installed around windows and doors. The gold anodized trim on the quarter panels is new, all handles and door locks operate as they should. The front and rear bumpers have been rechromed and new headlight bulbs, tail light lenses and front marker lenses have been installed. Wipers, horns, blinkers and all external lights are operational.
The inside door moldings and the dash were painted turquoise at the same time the exterior color was applied. New carpet and matching floor mats have been installed. The headliner, seats and door panels need reupholstering to truly finish the car, but they are in place and present decently for a driver quality car. The rear package shelf and kick panels are missing and the radio is inoperable. Speedometer, dash lights, blinker indicators and the factory gauges work satisfactorily. The steering wheel has cracks and would be a good candidate for refinishing.
This car is licensed and insured in the state of South Dakota and it drives down the street with no problems. I would recommend trailering the car home due to the old tires. This is a fun car that turns lots of heads and gets plenty of thumbs up in traffic. It's an easy car to finish restoring as you drive it. I have too many projects and hate to part with it. The asking price reflects the work needed in the interior, otherwise this car would easily be worth 16-18k. Good luck and please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. This car is sold with 2 sets of keys and a clean South Dakota title in my name with no liens whatsoever. This 58 Ford is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
