Description of 1936 Ford Cunningham Town Car

You are bidding on a very rare 1936 Cunningham-Ford Town car. 1 of 37 produced by James Cunningham and Sons. Rochester. New York between 1935 and 1937. Cunningham was a well established coach builder and auto manufacturer himself in the teens and twenties. These town cars were produced by the company as a response to the times of the depression. based on a more dependable and less expensive Ford convertible chassis purchased from the Ford Motor Company. Roughly half of these cars remain today. most in need of extensive restoration. As was common with Town Cars during this period. most were also later changed. painted. updated or modernized. This car was not. right down to it's original Chauffeur's compartment and lack of Ford badging . It may be the most original of the remaining Cunninghams. with 28000 documented miles. and having been held in a private Ford Collection for roughly the last 25 years. It was purchased by my father a few years after the Harrah's collection in Las Vegas NV was liquidated. This car still retains it's Nevada title. We have enjoyed it very sparingly. mostly for a few family weddings (including mine) and for local classic car events. There is a file of documentation pertaining to the car's history. as well as to the history of all the Cunningham town cars. Ours has always been covered and stored in a dry building when not in use. This car has been very a very special one for my family. but It is for sale will simply say you may contact me with questions at 860-627-5806. and I will try to get you an answer. This is a very special opportunity for the Early Ford collector. Museum or perhaps could be shown as part of a livery or limousine business. The condition of the car overall is very good to excellent. The car runs drives and shifts well. The paint is surprisingly good for it's age. and can be displayed with a small amount of work. If you look you will find some small defects and wear. but as I said this car is not restored. It has had maintenance over the years and as such some parts have been replaced. To my knowledge the only non original type part is a 6 volt electric fuel pump. As far as what it needs there are only a few items that come to mind. There is a chip in the windshield. and the top over the Chauffeur's compartment needs replacement (even Harrah's always displayed the car top hidden). Lastly. I believe It would benefit from a careful detail and hand wax. Honestly I delayed doing that as I never found a car detail person I felt comfortable with. In closing. after My father purchased this Cunningham Ford. nbsp; his pet project became trying to find out how many of these cars remained. where they were located. and their current condition. Sadly he ran out of time and passed away in 2008. He believed that these cars represented a very interesting offshoot of Ford Motor Company history. and wanted to do as much as he could to preserve them. We share that view. but realize it is time for this car to find a new owner who will show and enjoy it. We actually have 3 or the 14 Town cars known here. in various conditions. as well as a Brewster he saved from destruction. Thanks for looking. and again feel free to contact us for information. or to schedule an appointment to view the car. Serious inquiries only. please. We may consider a Buy it Now option for the right person. As with any antique car. nbsp; This Ford is sold as-is with no warranty. We strongly recommend you have your expert check out the car before purchase. as it is your responsibility to know what you are buying. and we are not responsible for inaccuracies or missing information. We are located in Northern Connecticut. about half way between New York and Boston. just north of Hartford Connecticut. If paid in full we could store the car here for up to a month until transportation can be arranged. We sold a few cars to Canada in the last few years and could assist with the paperwork necessary for export. Don't miss this chance to own a very rare unique early Ford. Thank you. D
