Description of 1970 Ford F-100

Vintage trucks rarely get the love and attention they deserve, but someone has clearly invested heavily in this 1970 Ford F-100 short bed pickup. With a laser straight body and slick Black Cherry paint that's about a mile deep, there can't be many out there that are sharper. There's also a great-running 429 Cobra Jet V8 running the show, a tastefully upgraded A/C interior, and lots of originality, resulting in one of the nicest Ford trucks we've ever featured at Streetside Classics. Take a closer look, because they don't get much better than this.
Body panels fresh out of the press don't look this laser straight, never mind more than 50 years later. Clearly, the builders invested a sizable pile of cash and many hours of spare time in this beautiful truck, and the result is very impressive. Black Cherry obviously isn't the truck's original color, but the deep, lustrous paint is a considerable improvement on the Ford metal and the finish was done to a high driver-quality standard. Note how the reflections of our floor are crisp and clear in the paint, how well the doors fit, and the very crisp look of the dramatic color overall. Sure, there are a few very minor signs of use and age, but those are completely forgivable simply because the sucker looks awesome overall. If you're a fan of these 5th generation F-series trucks (and who isn't?), you know that the handsome good looks come from a simple design that uses bright details to get the point across. Note the liberal use of brightwork and trim that accentuate the way the body details stand out, including the arrow-shaped profile molding along the flanks and flared fenders. Then there are those giant FORD block letters front and rear and a pair of shiny chrome bumpers just for good measure. Against the dark cherry paint, it all glitters like jewelry, emphasizing just how straight this truck really is. The egg-crate style grille was part of the facelift the F-100s received in 1970, and it's still one of the most popular look these Ford trucks ever received. This beauty also includes a fully painted bed that you might be hesitant to use simply because it's as well-finished as the exterior bodywork.
Since he was obviously aiming high, the professional who restored this truck installed a tasteful light tan interior to complement the dark bodywork, a combination that always works. For extra comfort, an updated 60/40 split-bench seat with high-backs was swapped in and covered with a fresh two-tone seat cover, and the plush carpets on the floor tie the interior together and are protected with carpeted Ford mats. The door panels are nicely upholstered, not just painted steel, which was standard equipment on all pickups back in the day, and this F-100 offers a full complement of fully functional gauges in the unique oval-shaped instrument panel. There's a matching pad atop the dash and taut headliner adorns the roof that add to the upscale feel inside, and an under-dash A/C unit was neatly incorporated and even features good-looking woodgrain accents. The original two-spoke steering wheel offers plenty of leverage for those poor souls who weren't smart enough to order power steering (don't worry, this truck is well-equipped), and it's joined on the column with the shifter for the 3-speed manual transmission below. And if the rumble of the big block under the hood isn't enough for your ears, a Kenwood AM/FM/CD/AUX head unit was installed in the center of the dash to provide entertainment.
If you want lots of horsepower and huge torque in your pickup, the 429 Cobra Jet V8 in this one is more than happy to oblige. With a professional fit inside the uber-clean engine bay, it cackles like it belongs in a Mustang Mach 1 and is dressed like it should be, too, with finned Cobra Jet valve covers and a matching chrome air cleaner. All the good stuff is inside the block, with an aluminum intake with a Holley carburetor on top, as well as a set of long-tube headers that help it breathe. It's a neat fit in the F-100's engine bay and it definitely has a Ford performance look that feels right in between the black-out inner fenders and clean firewall. Ford Blue engine enamel brightens things up and there are new tune-up parts everywhere you look, including a big aluminum radiator up front that keeps the big block nice and cool. The 3-speed on the column transmission mates to the engine perfectly, and with power steering and power front disc brakes the ride is a good one each time out. The frame and running gear are in great condition underneath and there's a dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers that sounds great. Shiny chrome Cragar S/S wheels strike the right tone and carry 235/70/15 Cooper Cobra white-letter radials.
Go ahead, try to find a cleaner F-100 for less money. Or you could just buy this one and save yourself some time, since it really is as nice as it looks. Call today!
