Description of 1978 Ford Bronco

***This is a NO RESERVE 7-day auction, ending Sunday night. I do not have a buy it now listed, but will consider any serious offers. I reserve the right to end the auction early at any time***
For sale: Survivor dry western 78 Bronco, loaded with all the right options - rare 4 speed, factory skid plates, tow hooks, roll bar (GT bar), sliding rear windows, HD cooling, power steering and brakes, and extra capacity fuel tank. Sold new at Bison Ford in Great Falls, Montana and never left the Rocky Mountain Front. Truck was used for hunting and fishing and as a summer recreational rig at nearby Glacier and Yellowstone national parks. Factory equipped with hubs and gear driven heavy duty NP205 transfer case, not the cheesy full time chain driven system. Includes original manuals, brochures, receipts, Bison Ford key fob, and Marti Report. Complete running and driving truck that will need further sorting, but is a super solid starting point. Definitely worth consideration if you are searching for a Gen 2 Bronco, but don't want to pay $25k-$40k. Please see the Flickr album link below in the description for detail pics including underside.

Exterior: Mostly original Jade Glow/Wimbledon white paint is faded but presentable. Left front fender and inner fender were replaced after a deer hit. Pretty straight and clean overall, passenger door is dented as shown. VERY dry rig and not rusty. Central Montana is arid country and the condition of this Bronco reflects that. I don't think it's ever seen salted roads. I'd say 98 percent rust free, with only a couple small blisters behind passenger wheel, and a few spots on floor. All the problem areas these Broncos usually have - wheel arches, B pillar, tailgate, etc look great. The spare tire carrier is in good condition with hardware and will be included, there are a couple of the hold down bolts broken off. Rear hood stabilizer bracket is missing on firewall, but the same year pickups never had them, so I don't think it's a big issue. Again, see detail pics in Flickr album below including underside. Truck presents well, an honest survivor you could drive with some sorting while you take it to the next level.

Interior: Original and presentable. No rodents or smells. Dash has a few cracks, and there are tears in the front seats under the covers. Seats are firm and not broken down. Windshield needs replaced. Dash rear window switch and motor are working, it does move up and down part way but window track needs lubrication so I haven't tried rolling it all the way down. I think most everything works, all gauges including fuel, as do wipers, heater, parking brake, even the vintage AM/FM 8 track/CB works - including the tape player. Windows roll up and down and doors lock. Original console was MIA, I am including a correct repairable console as shown. The rear lower trim pieces that cover the top bolts along the body rail on each side are missing. I may be able to locate some. No rodents or smells, nice enough for the wife to ride in.

Mechanical: Starts, runs, drives, and stops. Original engine has never been touched, and at 147k still runs smooth with decent oil pressure, but it does smoke at startup(probably valve seals). Probably will last a while if putting around with it, plan a rebuild sooner rather than later if you will be using it daily on the interstate. Trans shifts fine, and rear end was rebuilt with receipt included. Truck was sitting a while, I drained the gas, put in a new battery, fuel filters, etc. While it seems to run down the road fine, I haven't driven it very much, so I plan on doing that this week and updating the description with the results. Tires are in good condition, with plenty of tread and no cracks that I can see. lt is an older rig, it will need further sorting, and also work along the way as you drive. If you live in a state with very strict vehicle inspections, they will no doubt find something for you to fix, so expect that. Consider this truck a running driving PROJECT. The 2nd Gen Broncos are noted for excellent reliability and build quality, virtually a rolling anvil on wheels. Relatively simple to work on for the average shade tree mechanic.

If you've been watching 78-79 Broncos, you already know they are hot. Hagerty is showing a 30 percent price increase in the last 6 months on 2nd Gen Broncos, and lists an average truck in #3 condition at $24,900. This year a couple of 78-79 Broncos have gone in the $60k range, and they only seem to be going up. (copy and paste to browser URL)
