I bought her when I was fifteen years old. That was 37 years ago. I hate to see it go. but I am running out of room. This is an original. two owner. unmolested. highly optioned. numbers matching. maroon on black. M-code 1971 Mustang Grande with the factory 351 Cleveland 4 barrel engine. C6 automatic transmission. 9” rear end. staggered rear shocks. heavy duty rear suspension. power disk brakes. power steering. A/C (I have not kept the A/C charged. but all of the parts are there). factory AM / FM radio (it stopped working about a year ago and I have not checked it). and factory dual exhaust with only 93. 50 actual miles. It has all original sheet metal so the gaps and alignments are near perfect (no cheap reproduction parts). I added the 15” Magnum 500 wheels. but I have the original hubcaps. I purchased the car in 1978 at 60. 00 miles. It has had one repaint (the original factory B-code maroon) in 1980 and has been garage kept under a cover since then. It has not even been in the rain since 1980. It has never been smoked in and never had animals in it (at least since 1978). It is very straight and virtually rust free. It has one very slight ding where the left rear quarter meets the tail light panel. I took photos of this spot. but it is very small. The paint still looks great. It does have a few tiny stone chips behind the wheels. I tried to get photos of all of the blemishes in the photobucket link above. The paint is 35 years old so don’t expect a showroom finish. but it is very nice. All of the factory chrome is still in perfect condition with no pitting or rust. The trunk area and underside. including frame rails. torque boxes and floor pans are solid. original. untouched and in great shape. I photographed a very weak refrigerator magnet (bowling pin magnet) in the usual rust spots of old Mustangs to show the lack of bondo in this one. This Mustang does have some light filler in a couple of places from what I remember from the repaint in 1980. but it was from small dings. not rust. It still has the original interior in excellent condition with a perfect factory dash and headliner and all of the original weather stripping still looks like new. It still has the factory vinyl top that still looks great. It has had one transmission rebuild at around 75. 00 miles. but the engine is untouched and runs very strong. It fires right up every time and has tons of power. It runs and shifts great. and it has Flowmaster mufflers so it has a nice deep rumble. It drives and handles very nice. I usually put about 1. 00 to 3. 00 miles per year on it and have been on several 2 hour round trips with no issues and it gets an oil change every year and has never used any oil. This Mustang has all of the right options for this body style: the right color combination. the right engine. and transmission. Clean and clear Virginia title in hand. Call 540-798-2696 with any questions. Reserve is set well below the NADA average retail. Here are some of the more recent new parts:New Holley Street Avenger 670 carb. but still have factory Ford Autolite model 4300 carb. New Flowmaster Super 40 mufflersNew gas tank. new fuel sending unit. new fuel pumpNew Pertronix II ignition module (hidden inside of the distributor so it still looks factory)New heater coreInstalled O2 sensor in exhaust to make carb tuning easyThe 1971 Mustang was available in five different body styles. with the Grande version the most forgotten model of them all (only 17406 built in 1971). The Grande's came in coupe form only and because they share most parts with other models. are easy to restore with thousands of parts available from numerous suppliers. The Grande coupes were focused on luxury and comfort. as reflected in their lofty $3. 12 list price. A good looking. sophisticated muscle car with their padded vinyl roofs and deluxe interiors. the Grande was available with any engine option. which permitted buyers to order themselves a real sleeper. And this one was ordered with one of the best engines Ford ever built. the 351 Cleveland. The majority of 351 Cleveland engines are H-code 2V (2-venturi carburetor) versions with low compression and lower horsepower. This is the rarer 1971 M-code 4V head. The build date is Nov. 1970 (before the lower emission and lower horsepower M code 351's) so this engine has a 10. 70:1 compression ratio. M Code before May. 1971 = 351ci V8 compression ratio 10. 70:1M Code after May. 1971 = 351ci V8 compression ratio 9. 0:1The early 1971 M code Cleveland engines (like this one) were the last high compression engines available. Later versions ironically became the H. O. High Output. even though compression was dropped substantially. Here is the data plate info: VIN = 1T04M ######1 = 1971T = Metuchen.
