License and registration please.... This beautiful 1989 Ford Mustang SSP is a retired unit from the Florida State Highway Patrol. The SSP(Special Service Package) was a lightweight Mustang package that Ford put together at the request of the California Highway Patrol to replace some of the larger heavier police patrol vehicles that were available at the time. The upgrades to the SSP cars included an engine oil cooler, silicone radiator hoses with aircraft-style clamps, 130 or 135 amp internally or externally regulated heavy duty alternators, certified calibrated speedometer, non-operational courtesy lights (safety feature), relocated rear deck release, single key locking doors/trunk, reinforced floor pans and a full size spare tire. This package proved very popular and was used by government agencies across the country. The beautiful 1989 example you see pictured here served its time and has now been in a privately owned collection for years. The beautiful black paint is only six months old and has a mirror like shine. The black powder coated stock wheels and limo tinted windows give this black beauty a sinister appearance. Inside is bone stock SSP, with the factory AM/FM radio, reading light mounted in the headliner, and police service spotlight on the A-pillar. The air conditioning has been updated to R134a and blows ice cold. Under the hood is the stock 302CI V-8 mated with a T-56 six speed manual transmission. The T-56 is an upgrade from the original 5-speed manual this unit was equipped with. The only performance modifications consist of shorty headers and a custom exhaust with performance mufflers for a deep, muscular tone. The factory blue silicon hoses specific to the SSP model are still in service.
