The current owner purchased the vehicle from the original owner in 2013. He was going into a nursing home, and when filling out the title, he checked “mileage exempt†instead of actual mileage, even though the car undoubtedly had 50,000 original miles at the time. This is why there is a warning on the title showing in excess of mechanical limits. _______________________ 1985 Ford Thunderbird Introduced in 1955, the Ford Thunderbird has always been a staple of the American car culture. Over multiple decades of production, the Thunderbird was constantly evolving as it began as a small 2-seat roadster and turned into a massive 2-door executive coupe by the 1970’s. Jump forward to 1983 with the introduction of the ninth generation of Thunderbird, and the car had yet again transformed into something completely different. While the Thunderbird was to remain a luxury car, the 9th generation Thunderbird was more focused on performance, handling, and looks. This generation of Thunderbird was offered with 3 completely different engines ranging from the base 3.8-liter V8, 2.3-Liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, and the 5.0-Liter V8. The variety of engine choices along with the sleek new aerodynamic body made the mid 1980’s Thunderbird quite attractive. Along with these enhancements, Ford came out with a special edition of the car in 1984, a partnership with the Fila clothing brand! The Fila Edition Thunderbird was the top of the line Thunderbird as it came standard with white leather bucket seats, power windows, mirror’s, and driver’s seat. The Fila Edition was also $2,000 more expensive than the more powerful Turbo Coupe, making this car exclusive for its day. The Fila Thunderbird was made famous by tennis star Bjorn Borg, as Ford and Fila used him in a majority of the Fila Thunderbird’s promotional material. The 9thgeneration also became famous due to its success in Nascar, as it piloted Bill Elliott to many wins during the 1980’s in the iconic Coors #9. Even though the Fila ticked all of the right boxes, the special edition was only produced for 2 years, with a grand total of 2,532 being made.
