1957 Ford Thunderbird E CodeCalifornia Black Tag 2011The two-seat Thunderbirds were the sizzle of Ford’s production line-up in 1957. and you could have them your way. One could simply go with the small-displacement 292 CI two-barrel C-code engine. get a little more displacement with the 312 CI D-model. or you pump it up with paired four-barrels by selecting the E-code. While supercharged and racing-based combinations were also on the list. the E-ticket was a great all-around performance package. with great underhood eye candy to match. There were 1. 99 E-code T-birds built in 1957. but it would be hard to find another one to match this spectacular car. Finished in Red with a White interior and including both porthole hardtop and soft top. this classic is a just-completed rotisserie restoration. finished in 2015. Body-off detailing includes mechanicals renewed at Tennessee Classic Automotive in Smyrna. Tennessee. while cosmetic work was performed by Bobby's Hot Rod Shop in Mt. Juliet. Tennessee. Of course. the 270 HP engine is a highlight. with the dual Holley four-barrel carburetors residing on the aluminum intake. covered by the big chrome dual air cleaner. The engine has modified heads and camshaft. Behind this is the code-3 Ford-O-Matic transmission. with fender skirts decorating the rear fender wheels. There is not much to be understated when praising the ’57 model’s style and detail—the porthole windows. the stylish yet concise dash layout. and overall proportioning of the body have become iconic in the automobile collecting world. Couple its Red paint with the subtle chrome trim and White interior (complete with optional Town and Country radio). and the effect becomes stunning. Ford responded to market requests to make the model a four-passenger design in 1958. This car is the grand finale of what many consider to have been the Thunderbird’s finest hour. This car is well-optioned and features the highly desirable chrome wire wheels.
