Description of 1971 Ford Ranger

1971 Ford Ranger XLT This truck has spent nearly its entire life as a farm truck in rural Eastern Oregon. Several years ago I inherited the truck and had big plans to restore it and use it as my daily driver. That dream went about as far as spending over $1700 on body work and a paint job about five years ago. I drove it for a while after that. but soon realized that getting 11-13mpg with gas at $4 per gallon was sucking my pocket book dry faster than the tank! Alas. I ended up parking the truck in about 2011 or 12. Prior to parking the truck. it had been completely tuned up and ran like a top. but when I went to start it up to drive it out of the barn a couple months ago. it was idling rough and struggled when I put it into gear. After it gets going it seems to run ok with plenty of power. but it seems that it now needs another tune-up. I did drive it about 15 miles to the store recently and it did ok. but still ran rough at idle speed. I am tired of putting money into a vehicle that does not really suit my needs. so here it is for sale. What I know about the truck: The Good:390 CI motor that has PLENTY of power Newer paint that still looks pretty goodAutomatic transmission was rebuilt prior to me getting the truckInterior in pretty good shape for a 43 year old truckPower steering works greatNo rust that I am aware of except a small lip under the hoodBrakes were redone about 10 years ago with few miles sinceFully functional 8-Track sound systemComes with some extra parts that can be used or scrapped in the back: transmission. motorcycle tank. bike wheel. toolbox. See pictures. I can leave all this in the back if you want it. or I get rid of it for you if you don't. The bad:The A/C doesn’t workRuns rough at idle until warm. but runs ok past 1200 RPMAlternator or voltage regulator needs to be replacedAt times the engine dies when putting the transmission into gear. so I adjusted the idle up. This helped. but when the transmission is put back into park. the idle speed goes up to about 1800-2000 after the engine warms up.
