Description of 1978 GMC Sierra 2500

I purchased this 1978 GMC Sierra2500 on September 1, 2001 (the week of 9/11). I have owned it almost 19 yearsand am the 3rd owner. The body currently has 160,580 miles, therebuilt engine has 23,015 miles. I originally purchased it to tow a 24-ft camper for hunting/fishing trips. We did that a few times and then sold our camper and never towed with it again. I then used it for Cub & Boy Scouts for years, and the occasional pick-up of supplies from Lowe's or Home Depot. It has basically been a ‘lawn ornament’ for years, and although I never planned on ever selling it my wife has finally talked me into letting it go.

This was a fun project truck, and just after I bought it with 137,539 miles on it, I had its original 350-V8 engine professionally rebuilt with several enhancements including hypereutectic pistons, Hi-volume oil pump, RV cam, roller-rocker valvetrain, tall aluminum valve covers, Hedman ceramic-coated Hedders, MagnaFlow mufflers & exhaust pipes & crossover pipe, Edelbrock Performer Series intake manifold & Edelbrock 1406 Performer Carburetor, plus a ton more I just can’t remember... Before re-installing the motor we put in a Hughes Towing Torque Converter too. I added an entire Rough Country 4" lift kit with new leaf springs, shocks & steering damper stabilizer & stainless steel flexible brake lines.

Over the years I've added a Jeg's electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, 4-rowradiator, bypass trans fluid cooler & extended deep sump oil pan, new steering gear box, steering drag link & tie rod ends, front wheel bearings & seals, Class 3 towing hitch &wiring, new fuel tank sending units & rubber, carb rebuilt 2 years ago, locking gas caps, etc. The transfer case went out a year after I purchased it so I had that professionally replaced at Denny’s Transmissions in Phoenix, as well as all the u-joints – no problems since that was rebuild.

I have put on less than3000 miles on this truck since 2012 and basically now drive less than 20 miles a year with it. Since I purchased it in 2001, I have put just over 23,000 miles on the rebuilt motor. I have an oil-change maintenance log in MS Excel and the oil has been changed once a year, whether it needed it (3k) or not. There are no cracks on the frame but the hood just crumbled while trying to close it a few weeks ago – a common problem with these trucks.. it still closes & opens fine. Also, there is a rust hole on the passenger side floor and a small one on the driver’s side floor (seethe photos). I know these can be fixed with replacement pan parts – this is not serious ‘cancer’ like on trucks back east. Very minor surface scratches/rust on bed. No rust elsewhere. Both front fenders have gotten a bit loose over the years and need to be re-secured to their mounts. The driver side door window doesn't roll down and is missing the door panel, it might be in my attic where the original real window is stored. Lastly, the rear tail lights and dash lights stopped working about 3 years ago. I bought a headlight switch but never installed it, it goes with the truck. Someone with auto-electrical skills should have no problems finding the problem and fixing this; I’m just no longer interested in tracing it or fixing things like I used to.The truck starts up and runs with no issues, I can provide a video of that. I keep a trickle charger on the battery, and I start it every few weeks, and I drive it to get gas or supplies, etc. It is plated in Arizona and passes emissions testing here in Phoenix every year. The title is clean and clear. The VIN is TKL248J515447.
