Description of 1961 International Harvester Scout

THIS IS A 1961 SCOUT 80 4X4. FIRST YEAR PRODUCED BY INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER COMPANY. THIS ONE IS ABOUT AS STOCK AS YOU CAN GET. MOST SCOUTS HAVE SEEN MANY MODIFICATIONS OVER THE YEARS AS EVIDENCED BY NUMEROUS OWNERS AND EVENTUALLY BEING RELEGATED TO SIMPLY A UTILITY VEHICLE TO TAKE THE BRUNT OF MUCH ABUSE. THIS SCOUTDOESN'TSEEM AS IF IT WERE ABUSED. IT HAS THE STOCK 152 4 CYLINDER ENGINE WITH THE THREE SPEED TRANSMISSION AND DANA 18 TWO SPEED TRANSFER CASE. IT HAS DANA 27 AXLES WITH 4.27 GEARS. THIS SCOUT STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL SLIDING FRONT WINDOWS WHICH ARE REMOVABLE. THE FULL STEEL TOP IS ALSO REMOVABLE. THE WINDSHIELD CAN OPTIONALLY BE FOLDED DOWN WHEN THE TOP IS REMOVED. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL AND HARD TO FIND 16 INCH STEEL WHEELS. MOST SCOUTS HAD 15 INCH. THE TIRES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION.
THIS SCOUT STARTS, UNS, ND DRIVES OK. IT HAS ALL MAKINGS OF A DAILY DRIVER OR SOMEONES PERFECT WEEKEND CRUISER. THIS SCOUT IS NOT A SHOW WINNER. HAS AN OLDER REPAINT OVER SOME BODY WORK IN THE QUARTER PANELS, OCKER PANELS AND LOWER FRONT FENDERS. THE REAR FLOOR ALSO HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH STEELRIVETEDOVER THE ORIGINAL. FRONT FLOORS WERE ALSO REPLACED AT SOME POINT IN ITS LIFE BUT THE JOB IS HALFWAY DECENT. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SHOW SCOUT, R A SCOUT TO TEAR APART AND RESTORE TO PERFECTION, HIS MAY NOT BE THE ONE FOR YOU. IN MY OPINION THIS SCOUT WOULD BE BEST ENJOYED IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION, ITH SIMPLY NORMAL MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS TO CONSISTENTLY KEEP IT ON THE ROAD. THE NEXT OWNER ISOBVIOUSLYENTITLED TO HIS OWN OPINION IN THIS RESPECT.
THINGS THAT THIS SCOUT COULD USE IN TERMS OF REPAIRS: THE CARBURETOR COULD BE REBUILT, T DRIPS SOME GAS IF IT HAS BEEN STARTED AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE, UT IT IS NOT HAMPER THE OPERATION AS IT SITS. ALSO, HE CHOKE CABLE IS HOOKED UP BACKWARDS, O THE KNOB PULLED OUT IS ACTUALLY THE CHOKE BEING OPEN AND VICE VERSA. A NEW SET OF WINDOW SLIDE GASKETS, HE ORIGINAL ONES ARE BRITTLE. ONE WINDOW SLIDE HANDLE IS ALSO MISSING. THE SPEEDOMETER RECENTLY STOPPED WORKING.
ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF THE SCOUT ARE WORKING AS THEY SHOULD. ALL LIGHTS, URN SIGNALS, EATER, VEN THE ORIGINAL AM RADIO WORK PERFECTLY. THERE ARE NOIMMEDIATEREPAIRS NEEDED TO HIT THE ROAD OTHER THAN A NORMAL TUNEUP AND FLUID CHANGE/CHECK WOULD BE CERTAINLY WISE FOR THE NEW OWNER.
THIS SCOUT WAS ONCE USED IN A RALPH LAUREN PHOTO SHOOT WHILE IN MY OWNERSHIP. PLEASE SEE PICTURES. ALSO PLEASE SEE AN EARLIER PHOTO OF THE SCOUT WITH THE HUBCAPS INSTALLED. THESE RARE 16 INCH HUBCAPS ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE SALE.
