Description of 1978 International Harvester Scout II Rallye Edition

Highly optioned, great running and driving, rusty (quarter panels, floorboards and rockers) 1978 International-Harvester Scout II Rallye Edition which was used for years as a rural mail carrier and is set up with both left and right-hand drive (easily removable so you can convert it back to LHD only if you want).
The running gear is definitely the greatest strength. It has a smooth running 304cid V8 (new battery) with dual exhaust (small exhaust leak), relatively recently rebuilt 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission (with receipts), Dana 20 transfer case (4WD works great), a Dana 44 rear differential and a Dana 44 front differential with disc brakes and locking hubs. It also has power steering and power brakes. It starts up, idles, accelerates, shifts, steers, turns, brakes and stops very well for its age.
The interior is all original and in pretty good condition. It has the top-of-the-line option package which includes carpeting (worn and removed so you can see the floorboards), tilt wheel, deluxe upholstery, vinyl door panels, faux wood trim, clock, etc. Dash is in great shape with no cutting or butchery of any kind. A vintage Pioneer AM/FM/cassette deck was installed long ago. All gauges and everything else on the dash works other than the stereo, clock and blinkers. You can drive it from either seat right now but again, the RHD equipment is all bolt-in and easily removable.
The exterior is rusty but repairable (or just leave it and enjoy the patina). Rust is largely confined to the rockers and quarter panels which are readily available in the aftermarket. The doors, transmission tunnel, firewall, windshield frame, front fenders, hood, grille, tailgate, hatchback, cab corners and removable roof are all virtually surface rust only. I've used a rust neutralizer to touch up all the exposed rust so it won't spread. All glass is good and the doors open and close and windows roll up and down properly. The paint is all original other than the drivers door and passenger side quarter panel. And those are the only two places with any sign of prior body work. Most exterior lights work.
Scouts (especially II's) are rapidly appreciating in value as early Bronco's and Land Cruiser's become priced out of reach for many. This one has great mechanical bones (rural mail carriers typically maintain their rigs to a very high standard for obvious reasons). It runs and drives very well and is fairly rattle-free (especially by Scout II standards). Plus it is stock and original (other than the RHD feature) which further adds to its desirability. My hope is that it finds a good home where it will be preserved for future generations.
