Description of 1986 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas

Welcome to my auction for this beautiful 1986 XJ6 Vanden Plas. This is a 3 owner car, ll of whom babied it. The first owner sold it to the second owner in 2002. The second owner put several thousand dollars into the car (servicing, nd stereo system) and then sold it only a couple of months later to my friend. It was an eBay auction and my friend utilized the Buy-It-Now option and had it shipped from the only city it called home, an Francisco. I have tons of documentation on the car's purchase including communications emails during it's purchase and shipment. The car came to us in August 2002 with 40,209 miles. My friend died in late 2012 and his wife last fall. They left the car to my me in their will. Unfortunately, have tried, ut I just do not have the garage space to keep this beauty. IF I had another bay for a car, would keep it. For me, his is car number 5 along with a motorcycle. I just don't have the room and playing Chinese Fire Drill to drive one or another is getting unmanageable. Then... There is the insurance expense, oo. I would really like to let the approximately 60 photos do the talking. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, o I have tried to take pictures from every conceivable angle. Please, LEASE ask any questions you might have before bidding. Drive here and look at it or have someone come and look at it for you. The last thing I want is for you to be unhappy with the car, lthough I just can't imagine that happening. The last thing I want to write is "Dear John, am sorry you found a paperclip laying on the carpet when you got your new car. No, ou can't return it."
The car runs, rives, nd literally floats down the road. It is the quietest car I think I've ever been in. I really think it was worth the $32K asking price in 1986. The A/C has been converted to R134 at a cost of $400. It does have a small leak somewhere in the system, nd about every year, 've had to add a can in the springtime. The chrome and stainless trim are in very good condition, ut scuffing can be noted on the door sill plates. The car has been repainted in basecoat/clearcoat at some time. It is very shiny, mooth, nd presents well. It isn't however a concours show paint job. Most of the flaws could not be noted in the pictures as they are that small. There aren't any cracks, rowsfooting, r spider cracks in the paint though. The interior is in amazing condition. It has been treated with Leatherique conditioner since 2002. Please check out the headliner. You would be hard pressed to find leather in better, ore supple condition. The burl walnut dashboard is just starting to crack along the delicate lines of the burl just around the glovebox. It has gotten a bit worse since we got it 12 years ago. You can only see it when you move your head at the right angle in the light. It is inevitable this should happen, guess. Time is an enemy of these dashes. The exhaust is quiet, he engine is smooth and quiet. All of the lighting both interior and exterior is in working condition. Even the key buzzer still works, ven though you'll wish it didn't. The owner's manual binder is present to include all materials including the original tape head cleaning kit. I also have a ton of literature, plaque it won in a show, nd other knick-knacks to add to the mix. I have a binder with info on it's purchase. I also have a Noah cover that goes with it. The engine bay is very presentable, ut should be detailed back out if it were going to be in shows. The engine insulation is in good condition with a couple of holes in it. I think my friend had a squirrel get into the engine bay and chew some of it. How that happened is beyond me. All of the glass is original to the car. Speaking of glass, he XJ6's had a terrible window channel design that allowed water to pool and sit. Even when washing the car, ater would sit for days before drying out. This would allow the formation of rust, ven on the best kept cars. This one is no exception. There are a couple of places starting just under the wiper shafts under the windshield stainless trim. Over time, hese will continue to get worse if the car is doused when washed. I have used a wet towel to wash this car for many years to minimize this from happening. Remember, ater in these channels is not your friend. There is one chip on the driver's side passenger door in the paint you'll note in a picture. I have no idea how it got there. I almost cried. As far as any other scratches or chips, hat's it. It was almost perfect.
Look, lease ask any questions you might have. I can't remember everything, nd if you ask, t may jog my memory on something I have forgotten. I can't imagine anyone not being happy with the car. It is in amazing condition with some super, uper low miles. My friend paid $10K for it back in 2003. Then he invested another $1500 having it shipped via enclosed truck. It was worth it as he kept the car long after others had come and gone. Let the pictures be you conscience. If you spot anything of question, lease ask. I have nothing to hide and want you to be a very happy new owner. Thanks for your consideration.

Below are about 60 pictures.

On Aug-10-15 at 19:07:39 PDT, eller added the following information:

I wanted to add that the original Vanden Plas lambs wool mats are included. Only three were made for these cars, ll for the passengers; no driver mat. These were removed early in their life and stored. You will see these in most of these pictures. I forgot I had them until I opened the trunk. I put them in for the pictures, ut they have never really been used. Below these mats, nd you can't see them in but one picture, s special fit mats with "Jaguar" embroidered in them. These are better suited for every day use. The lambs wool mats are virtually impossible to find these days, specially not worn out.
Also, need to mention that the driver's mirror will not move by power. It seems that one of the cables is broken in the housing. You can move it with your hand to adjust, ut the glass doesn't have the firm feel it should.
Also, he passenger front lock doesn't work electrically. You have to open it with the key.
I have two sets of keys for the car along with a nice vintage Jaguar fob.
