Description for Jaguar E-Type 1962

1962 Jaguar E-Type

In reference to the XKE in this eBay auction, here at MissChiTown we are the marketing arm for car collectors who are usually too busy to market and sell their collector car. So, we were awe struck when the collector of this fabulous XKE flat floor asked us to market this car on eBay for him.

The words that immediately came to mind about the flat floor XKE’s are: LEGENDARY, ICONIC, FABLED – yet none of these words seemed to capture the impact of a Jaguar Roadster Flat Floor in today’s market place. It is well known that when Ferrari who designed some of the most beautiful cars ever, when he first saw the first Jaguar XKE flat floor, his reaction was, “This is the most beautiful car ever designed”. Coming from Mr. Ferrari that was of the highest compliment possible.

Today in the world of car collecting, everybody knows that foreign sports cars are so desirable that the prices have been accelerating at an unbelievable rate. Within that category there is not a better all-star for foreign car collector world then the Jaguar XKE flat floor.

Now get this, the car in this eBay auction has had a no expense spared restoration. This 1962 E-type roadster flat floor with welded louvers was built 12/5/1961. For those that do not know Jaguars title process, those XKE’s that were assembled after the Jaguar plant annual vacation in September 1961 were titled as 1962 (even though they were produced in 1961). Again, it is a flat floor, welded louvered with inside bonnet latches. The car has a matching engine, transmission and rear end. It should be noted that the original Moss 4-speed gear box that goes with the car has been removed and packaged and saved, while a new 5 speed gear box has been installed for improved for acceleration and high speed touring (with the engine doing low RPM’s for comfort of both the engine and the driver).

The following is a description from the owner about the car:

1962 E-type roadster, build 12/5/1961.

Flat floor, welded louver, inside bonnet latch.

All numbers match (car, engine, transmission...) and I have the Heritage certificate attesting to same.

The restoration was completed in summer 2015. The car was solid prior to restoration.

It was a no-expense spared restoration, that took 3 years, at a total investment of approximately $200,000.00.

The car has original sheet metal, with the exception of the trunk lid sheet steel - it had corroded around the lip so we replaced the sheet on the original trunk lid frame.

The paint is Opalescent Silver-Grey, Glasurit color matched to original,

Interior is dark blue, all coming from BAS interiors (the best, most original stuff...). BAS Jaguar Interiors are the only interiors serious Jaguar restorers will accept for their cars. BAS were the first company in the world to offer replacement trim for Jaguars

The convertible top is also dark blue (original color was black), on all original frame mechanism, painstakingly restored.

Even the seat frames, etc. are original.

The gaps are excellent, paint and bodywork are excellent, there are weld dimples where there are supposed to be, etc. Even the lower "mouth" in front is original sheet metal.

The vast majority of the bright work is original, re-chromed, with a few exceptions like front bumper over riders and a couple other bits and pieces.

Headlight lenses are original, etc.

Has 4 original chrome wire wheels, but new Dayton 6" wires are on the car.

Has upgraded electrical, brakes (Wilwood), cooling and stainless steel exhaust header.

Also 5 speed transmission installed. In all cases, I have the original parts that go with the car (including 4 speed moss gearbox, radiator, brakes etc...).

Toolkit with proper tools that I assembled, and it's the rarer round toolbox that fits in the spare wheel.

I believe that everything is either original, or of the proper vintage - the steering wheel is correct, gauges correct, all interior "raised dot pattern" aluminum is "new" from England (original stock material), and on and on. No radio in the car, but I have what I believe is the original radio in the spare parts stockpile.

It drives wonderfully, and has about 800 miles on the clock since the restoration.

Here at MissChiTown we believe that the Jaguar XKE’s are one of the hottest car collector items today. 99.8% of the Jaguar’s that become available are not flat floor Jaguars. Without a doubt, flat floor XKE’s have always been and currently are the most desirable of all XKE’s, and that is saying a lot. We are not allowed to reveal the reserve but considering the $200,000.00 restoration, it is so attractive there might as well not be a reserve.

Here at MissChiTown we know of no more desirable sports car that is accelerating at a faster rate of dollar appreciation then a flat floor XKE. When you add in the fact that this car that has been totally restored to 99% of its original metal work and a color that will just knock your socks off, all that could make this a once in a lifetime “Flat Floor” opportunity. The owner is a very private person and this is just one of the reasons that he has selected MissChiTown to assist him with marketing his car.

MissChiTown brings some of the most rare and interesting collectible cars to be marketed on eBay.
