Description of 1987 Jaguar XJR |
Beginning in 1989 Jaguar and TWR manufactured specially designed XJR-S cars with special TWR badging. This Jaguar is a 1987. manufactured in 12/86. It is NOT A REGULAR production TWR XJR-S. However this car has the complete TWR trim and also has some features that suggest it may have been an early prototype concept version of the soon to be released XJR-S. As well as all of the normal TWR body modifications. this car does NOT have the standard XJR-S lettering on the rear. If this were just another clone. and with all of the other correct TWR/XJR details. it should also have identical rear lettering. It does not. It says "Special Edition". It also does not have the special production chrome XJR wheels. probably because they did not exist in 1987. However the wheels are very unusual because while they are similar to the standard XJS wheel. THEY ARE CHROMED. with black painted interior surfaces. I have never seen a polished and chromed "standard" XJS wheel. and it would be expensive (why?) to make. These wheels are not unusual at first look. but upon closer inspection they are very different. Also. for a "clone" why the black inserts? Why not red? Or full chrome? This is all concept car one off design. The history of this car is uncertain. The information from a previous owner states that it came from a dealer in Los Angeles exactly as it appears. Perhaps a few of these were released early to test the market. or it may have been a special version for the LA Car Show in 1987. No provenance can be guaranteed. but it is too good and unusual not to be a Jaguar factory product. The car is solid underneath - no rust on rear trailing arm mounts (see photos). etc. The engine has a bad head gasket and there is some body damage behind the passenger door. shown in photo. The grill has been removed but it is included with the sale. Please phone 775-513-3219 with any questions. Storage for a few weeks to allow transportation is no problem. A $1. 00 deposit is required within 24 hours at the end of the auction. Also available at $1. 00 extra cost is a 6. 0 V12 engine and 4L80E automatic trans. This is a great collector car that will get much attention when restored. Thank you for bidding. |
