Description of 1966 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 liter Series 1 Roadster |
This Series I example was cosmetically and mechanically refreshed from 2010 to 2012. The original 4.2L inline-six received rebuilt carbs and a new exhaust, and the front suspension was rebuilt. The door skins and driver’s side rocker were replaced, the car was repainted, new rubber seals were installed, and the chrome was re-plated. The car was then in the current non-original Sapphire Blue Metallic. A new windshield was installed, and every piece of chrome was re-plated including the bumpers, light bezels, latches, switches, handles, and door frames. The car’s rubber seals, door gaskets, door window felts, and all of the rubber on the top were also replaced. The front suspension was rebuilt with new ball joints and the correct tie rods with gold ends. Chrome 15″ wire wheels are in very good shape and wear tires with plenty of tread left. The underbody looks clean and dry, with no areas of corrosion apparent. The car has been serviced in the last six months with a carburetor rebuild, and new steering rack and steering column bushings. The owner reports that it has been thoroughly sorted, runs and handles well, and is ready for shows and rallies. INTERIOR The grey leather upholstery on the seats and door panels shows well, and grey carpets appear look clean. The dash looks nice, and the toggle switches and Smiths gauges are said to function properly. The 4.2L inline-six is said to be original and is paired to a 4-speed gearbox. The 4.2L engine had greater torque than the earlier 3.8L version, and featured an alternator instead of a generator and a more reliable brake booster. Replaced exhaust with an all stainless steel system and has fitted new motor and exhaust mounts. The brake master cylinder has also been replaced. The rear end assembly was pulled out and all bearings and seals in the differential and hubs were replaced, along with the lower fulcrum pivots. The data plate, and engine, head, body and transmission numbers all match. Service records and receipts from work done to the car over the last 7 years are included, along with photos of the restoration process. |
