Description of 1982 Jeep CJ Laredo

CONGRATULATIONS! You have happened upon one of the cleanest, CJ-7 Laredo's in existence.
  • Two Owner Vehicle - Original Owner owned for 31 years!
  • 37,682 Original Miles - Mostly from RV towing
  • Never used for off road adventures.
  • Always stored indoors.
  • This is a CLEAN JEEP!!
I am the second owner of this Jeep. It took me five years to convince the original owner to sell it to me. I bought it from him in 2013. I am reluctantly selling to raise money for a new car.
The original owner purchased it new from John Irish Jeep in San Rafael, Ca on December 19th 1981. (See attached photo of original delivery sheet)
This Jeep was never used for off road adventures. It spent part of its life being towed behind an RV and used as a runabout. Other than that it was used as a second car driven only locally in Marin and Sonoma County, Ca. All in all ONLY 37,682 ORIGINAL MILES!! It has always been stored inside in a garage or aircraft hangar.
One important detail you need to know is how extremely fastidious the original owner was in taking care of this Jeep. I am pretty picky too, but this guy is over the top and you can see that when you look at this Jeep. He took exquisite care of it and attended to all maintenance during his ownership, as have I. He also kept great files on the Jeep. I have all invoices that he included when I bought it. I also have invoices for work done during my ownership. He also kept all original 1982 Jeep brochures and parts catalog. (see photo)
EXTERIOR
  • In the early 2000s the original owner repainted the exterior, which still looks great. It is the original Jamaica Beige with brown pin stripes. The original paint was not completely stripped before repaint but according to the orig owner original decals were removed and paint was well scuffed and prepped etc. There are few very small chips here and there in the new paint where you can see under to the original paint.
  • Hard top is in good condition with some cosmetic wear and tear.
  • Original chrome wheels are wrapped in 31 10x50 BF Goodrich All-Terrains - Tires were installed July 2013.
  • I had new front and rear shocks installed July 2013.
  • The chrome on all wheels has faded and has a milky patina.
  • Original owner installed Smitty Built rear and side bumpers.
  • There is a rear tow hitch insert on the rear bumper.
  • Front bumper was installed by original owner and also has a hitch insert. I have the original chrome rear bumpers.
  • The body is straight and appears corrosion free.
  • The frame appears to be in good condition with no visible corrosion.

INTERIOR
  • The interior is in excellent condition.
  • The dash panel still has the original paint and trim decals, including the original "Laredo" badge.
  • The upper padded dash is in great condition.
  • Door panels, front bucket seats and rear seat are Nutmeg brown.
  • The original front bucket seats had typical wear and tear on the top material when I bought it, so I had the Franzini Brothers (well known auto upholstery shop in Terra Linda, Ca) recover the seats matching the top material as closely as possible using new material. They re-used the original seat frame, vinyl backing, tan carpet sides and padding.
  • The rear seat is like new as it was out of the vehicle in storage. It is installed now.
  • The original center console was replaced years ago. I just installed a new black "Besttop" style locking console.

ENGINE/MECHANICAL
  • The original 258ci Inline Six Cylinder engine seems to be in good condition and operates well.
  • This Jeep runs and drives very well.
  • Steering is tight and the vehicle tracks straight and true.
  • Transmission is great. Very easy and smooth shifting.
  • All engine hoses were replaced by original owner in 2012 (see pic).
  • There was a brand new battery installed Jan 10th.
  • 4x4 system works well
  • Brakes were serviced in 2013

Hello Bidders and interested parties.. In the interest of full disclosure.. I received this question from a buyer:
"Hi, Nice Laredo. I specialize in restoring CJ Laredos. Do you know at what point in the time original OEM speedometer cluster was removed and replaced with the new aftermarket speedometer head. Is there any documentation regarding the original mileage from the original speedometer cluster before the change was made? The original speedometers from 1980 -1986 had "unleaded fuel only" printed above the MPH print. Also, you should have one more digit to the left of 3 in odometer. It i 1/2 the width of the normal digits. It would show a 1 when the odometer rolled over 100,000 miles."
I told this interested party that I would inquire with the original owner who I know personally. Here was my response after speaking with the original owner:
"I spoke with him this morning. Apparently there was approx. 10k on the Jeep when the change was made, so accurate mileage would be 47,682. We didn't discuss this when I purchased the vehicle but frankly I wouldn't have cared as it is a such a special jeep. Still low mileage in my book. Thanks for the heads up!"

I do have a number of invoices from the shop that the original owner used. He said there should be record of the switch. Frankly the hand writing on most of the invoices is hard to read, but I will try to find the info.
