1977 Jeep CJ5VIN #: J7F83AH072814 Miles: 156,200 3 - Speed Manual Transmission Power Steering Old Man Emu CJ Suspension 3" Lift 33" Lemans AT on 15" x 10" American Wheels Color: Orange Interior: Custom Sahara Bucket Seats Black Cloth w/Orange Piping ~I bought this Jeep in April of 2001 and really haven't used it that much so it's time for it to go to another home... You're not seeing things - it is two different shades of orange and I'll try to explain the paint fiasco in the following... Here's the background prior to my ownership: The previous owner purchased it through eBay from Crystal City Missouri with 154,677 miles. At the time the Jeep had less than 100 miles on it following a nine-month ground up restoration. The Jeep was finished in a fantastic Camaro Hugger Orange with eight coats of Dupont base coat, clear polyurethane enamel and buffed to a show quality finish. The entire undercarriage was refinished in a blackpolyurethane enamel as well. The pictures with the Top on make the color look more red than itactually is - it's an old picture that I had saved from when I acquired the Jeep and not the best quality. The engine is arebuilt304V8with a mild Edelbrock RV cam, newcarburetor, new water pump, all new hoses and belts and a fully serviced transmission and transfer case. It has3.54 gear ratiofront and rear differentials with new gears and bearings. It has power steering, new front and rear brakes and brake hoses, new tie rod ends, pitman arm, bushings and shock absorbers. It has a new aluminized dualexhaust system, new radiator and 33" Lemans tires mounted on 15" x 10" American alloy wheels. New battery, new vinyl high-back bucket seats and a new role cage, and finally a new Black Best Top soft top and doors mounted over the old frames. ...so that's how it was when Ibought it. Ok - so this Jeephas been driven less that 1,400 miles in 17-years which basically means I don't use it at all. It spends it's life in a warehouse on a battery tender just in case I decide to fire it up and go for a drive. I've made a few changes to it over the years - mostly good. For the record - it does get started at least monthly but rarely driven. I replaced the aftermarket vinyl high back seats with late model (at the time) Jeep Sahara seats and had them recovered in an automotive grade cloth with orange piping - they look great. I had the original rear seat recovered to match. I removed the full-cage to make iteasier to climb in and out of - I never planned on taking it off road anyways so the cagedidn't make sense for me. I installed new black carpetthroughoutand had some custom panels made that were covered with carpet to finish off the inside of the tub. Driving the Jeep was a hands onexperience - and I mean both hands as it tended to wander when you hit a bump. Not fun. After some research and talking to some Jeep buddies they convinced me to install an Old Man Emu suspension which made a HUGEdifference in handling and actually civilized things considerably - no more wandering, no more lane changes etc. It really drives nice now. If you're notfamiliar with Old Man Emu there'ssome good information on the Rocky Road Outfitters Website about the Emu CJ lift. The gasgaugenever worked from the get go soin my quest to sort that outI bought and installed a new tank and sending unit. The new tank is great but the gas gauge stilldidn't work so I bought and installed a replacement speedometer head with a new fuelgauge allto no avail. I kept the old head (pictured)just to keep track of the miles. Next I removed the rear tailgate and replaced it with a steel panel - this is wherethings went sideways for the paint... My planwas to remove the tailgate, install a new metal panel in its place, have it painted and eventually mount a matching spare on the back. I thought this would be a great finishing touch. So I took the Jeep to a local body shop and had themtackle the tailgate. They called me a few months into the project and asked if I wanted the role-bar cleaned up andrepainted from whereI removed the full-cage, plus they mentioned a few minor paint issueswith the front fenders that could be addressed as well so I said sure - fix it. When the Jeep returned it was twodifferent colors... basically the entire tub below the hood not including the front grill is some other color and not hugger orange as you can see from the pictures. The grill, hood, window frame, dash and under the hood are still hugger orange. I went nuts and this ordeal has taken the fun out of owning this Jeep so I'm hoping to sell itto someone whowants/has the time to deal with it, someone who will spend a few bucks to repaint it either back to how it was (hugger orange) or the new color whatever that is (I honestly don't know) or just live with it. The new color isn't bad, it's just not hugger orange. Bottom line - even with the multi-color paint job this is still a great looking jeep; it starts easily, it's strong running and it sounds great!
