Description of 1987 Jeep Wagoneer Grand Wagoneer

1987

Jeep 4x4

Grand Wagoneer

VIN: 1JCNJ15U9HT0099205

I’m often asked where we find these clean, unique vehicles. A good friend cruises parking lots of retirement homes, Elks clubs, our V.F.W. Hall and the small-town back streets of rural areas near Seattle. He can spot a seatbelt slammed in a door a mile away… He’ll notice when a nice old car or truck is driving with a turn signal left on just a little too long and he positively twitches with glee when a metal-bumpered vehicle passes by! Occasionally, one of our local collector contacts or a Jeep club member will part with a vehicle from their stable. If you’re in the market for a clean vintage SUV, please give this super nice Grand Wagoneer your kind attention. Feel free to contact me with questions or to discuss a sale before the end of the Ebay auction listing. My name is Mark and you can reach me directly by phone or text at 206/914-1173.

CONDITION:

The photos really tell the Grand Wagoneer’s story. From them you’ll see the rig has obviously been well cared for over the years. It sold new at Pioneer AMC/Jeep in Hollywood, California during the late spring of 1987. In 1991, the original owner moved here to scenic Gig Harbor, just a few miles from us, and in 1999 passed it along to the second caretaker, a now-retired technical college instructor. He and his wife have lovingly cared for the vehicle almost 20 years now, using it sparingly. From my inspection, I've found absolutely NO evidence of any accidents, body rust, storm damage, insurance salvage, theft recovery, repossession or ANY other nasty negatives to cause you concern as the next caretaker! Be sure to look over the included AutoCheck report attached to this listing as it further backs up my observations.

I take pride in these vehicles and feel you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly, here’s a list of the good and any small things I’ve come across possibly needing attention: The four-wheel drive system works just as it should. With a flip of a switch the drive train goes to full 4x4 mode when needed, so most of the time you’re in 2WD, not wearing out the strong Dana front axle components during summertime highway use. An extra leaf spring was added to the rear suspension, raising it about 2 inches from stock. This was likely done to increase load capacity, but they could be removed for appearances sake if desired. The overall exterior is in very good condition. No fading on any of the original faux woodgrain vinyl or moldings. The fact this rig still wears its factory off-white paint is a big plus! Though it's had some touch-up here and there on scratches and rock chips, it can only be original once. There is NO failing clearcoat or major dents. Rust?Well, this classic Jeep HATES rust and you’d be hard pressed to find anything here to worry about! Having sold new in SoCal (we have the original window sticker) and then spending its entire life in a snow-free environment, there’s never been exposure to corrosive road salt. Climb over, under and throughout this rig - I know you’ll come up smiling!

One turn of the key and the strong 360 CID V8 fires right up with just a few pumps of the gas pedal. There’s a nice, throaty rumble to the exhaust. The three-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, just like it should, with NO slippage. Of course, there’s a tilt steering column, power steering and brakes. As is typical on Grand Wagoneers, the power windows can be a bit slow on the uptake, but all four work properly as does the power tailgate glass. Both power front buckets move freely in all six directions. The stock alloy wheels are wrapped with newer Goodyear Wrangler radials, each having at least 90% remaining tread. It really is fun to drive anywhere you’d wish to go and you’re guaranteed to get a “thumbs up” every time! The original broadcast sheet details factory options included an auxiliary transmission oil cooler, the trailer towing package, a 3.31/1 ratio rear pumpkin and that California emission specs were met.

Please take another look at the interior pics. Most often when I come across these great rigs, the first item of business is to have a new headliner installed. It’s pretty rare to find one that isn’t sagging or just missing altogether. As you can see from the photos, this headliner is in virtually perfect condition. There are NO rips, tears or wear-through spots on any of the leather seat surfaces or the fabric inserts (very important because the material is no longer available). Front and rear carpets have always been protected by their factory floormats and are in great condition. I’ll be sure to include the mats, though the drivers has a heel wear spot. Carpeting on the cargo floor and tailgate has been replaced to factory specs. All the glass is great including the windshield (there is a small bullseye chip). The tailgate glass travels up and down smoothly from the dash switch, thus allowing easy access to the storage area. The factory oil pressure gauge has been supplemented with an aftermarket unit on the dash top. Updating a tired old radio with an AM/FM/CD player is always a plus on these vintage rigs. This one has a faceplate-removable Sony. About the only negative needing attention will be service to the A/C system to make it functional (we’re not sure what that will entail). That’s about it! If you’re thinking of bidding on a comparable Chevy Suburban or Ford Bronco of similar vintage, you really owe it to yourself to look over and drive this Grand Wagoneer first!

PLEASE DO BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a classic from a respected Ebay seller. I want you to be happy with your purchase (and with me) and that’s the main goal! Please don’t be upset by a missed flaw or some unforeseen problem! No vintage used car or truck is ever perfect. Having said this, I wouldn’t hesitate to drive this SUV long distance immediately.

Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that Ebay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call, text or email before placing a bid. If I don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. As I’ve outlined above, the phone number to talk directly to me is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. My name is MARK THOMPSON. You’re welcome and encouraged to come by my Auburn, WA warehouse to inspect & drive the Grand Wagoneer. You might also make an offer, as many of my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that contact me and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end. I always reserve the right to sell during this period.

A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:

Full payment is due by cash (in person only) or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. I can accept credit or debit cards, but I’ll first need to invoice you and ask that you cover the 3.5% fee our processor charges us. Please remember you’re bidding to buy and I fully expect the winner to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.

If you decide to have theJeep transported home, there are scores of companies to choose from. I ship vehicles regularly and am happy to make suggestions about who to use. In addition to quotes using the shipping tab here on the auction site, you might also get bids directly from U-Ship.com. You’ll be able to choose a broker from multiple offers. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). We do have a transporter that regularly delivers for us to western states and has arranged transport to the Midwest and East Coast as well. Ultimately, shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER.

TheWagoneer can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day. The vehicle is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. All information described above is based on the observed condition when thelisting was placed. I've done my very best to describe the Jeep as honestly as possible and encourage bidders to contact me with questions.
