Description of 1970 Land Rover Defender IIA

My faithful and historic classic NADA Series IIA Land Rover is in need of a new home. She is one of my four Rovers, and is driven daily to work and occasionally for play. Currently residing in Phoenix, she has spent most of her 22 years with me in the mountains of Colorado where she has provided tons of fun and smiles.
Highlights: New Exmoor trim front seats. Newish headliner, Hardura paneling and she has the correct "deluxe" interior with headboards and trim. Interior looks great, and everything works as it should. Engine rebuilt by me about 15 years ago. Rebuilt with Weber 2BBL carb. using existing air intake with adaptor. Runs very well. Gear box and transfer case were rebuilt by previous owner, work great, leak through all the seals.
Over the years, I've rebuilt the brakes, replaced the springs with Rocky Mountain parabolic and Old Man Emu shocks. Replaced the wiring harness, a couple of the door handles as well as many other things that didn't work as they should. They work correctly now.
Most maintenance where possible has been done using Land Rover original parts, such as door seals, brakes, engine components, fuel system, electrical. Everything that I could, I restored to original, and everything on this vehicle works as it should; the transmission (hand) brake needs to be adjusted.
Hard to find or unusual items that make this vehicle special/beyond the norm for a Series IIA, and that I have not already mentioned include:
Auxiliary heater behind driver's seatFairey OverdriveOriginal Dual-matic locking hubsOriginal working hazard switch panelManual throttleFly screensNew exhaust (2 years)Alternator conversionCorrect reflectors, indicator lights, and headlights all around - also has all the original and correct badging and stickers.Shoulder belts for front seat belts.Steering dampener.
Her body exhibits signs of her history. Many scrapes and encounters with the scenery has provided her a patina appropriate for her use. All of her panels are original, as is the frame and bulkhead. The rear cross member has been replaced, the outrigger in front of the fuel tank (included with sale) needs to be replaced, otherwise, the frame is sound. Bulkhead is great, though floor pans might need some TLC depending on new owner's needs.
She was repainted by a previous owner, who also was responsible for most of the body condition. It has never bothered me, just adds to her character. For the Land Rover enthusiast, this is a correct NADA unrestored vehicle, that has all the hard to find bits and pieces needed for a full restoration. I have restored her to excellent mechanical condition with an almost new interior. If, like me, you value that, but just want to drive her, this Landy will function as she was meant to with minimal attention. engine pulls great, brakes work well. She is reliable, inexpensive and simple to maintain. She is ready to provide a new owner many years of enjoyment and experiences.
This vehicle can be driven to her new home, whether it be in the Phoenix area, or Maine if need be, and you are enthusiastic enough. For long distances though, I recommend putting her on transport. I will be happy to meet the buyer with the vehicle in the local area, and I reserve the right to sell the vehicle locally and/or end the auction early if she sells elsewhere. I am happy to answer your questions on this car, I have loved her dearly, and know her well. I will also be happy to provide the new owner with many additional spare parts and bits included in the auction price.
If you would like a picture of a particular bit, I have many more, let me know. Thanks for looking.
