Description of 1979 Lincoln Other Town Coupé

1979 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL TOWN COUPÉ RARE 2 DOOR MODEL I've owned it since 2002 ! click to enlarge I am offering one of the Lincolns from my collection. I have been a member of the LCOC (Lincoln Continental Owners Club) since 1981. Over all those 33 years I have acquired quite a few Lincolns. and now that I'm getting older it’s time to thin down my collection a bit. So you would be purchasing the Coupé from a Lincoln enthusiast. not a used car dealer or barn find spotter. I have owned this 1979 Town Coupé since August 6th 2002. I purchased it from the 2nd owner. a local lady here in Reading. She purchased it in 1981 from the original owner who also lived in the Reading area. The car was sold new here in town and originally Pennsylvania titled on March 21st 1979. When I purchased the car in 2002. it had 78. 38 miles on it. and it now has 80. 09. As you can see I have not used it much. It has a PA Antique license plate which can be transferred to another owner if you are in PA. The Antique plate is permanent in PA and has no annual cost whatsoever. Classic car insurance with an Antique plate is extremely inexpensive. with stated value coverage the cost is less than $50 a year for this car on my policy. Now to the details about this Town Coupé. I own an auto parts store and because of that I have easy access to parts. I also have had mechanics who worked for me and do restoration work on my private Lincoln collection. this car included. Due to these facts. owning an auto parts store and employing mechanics. I have work done on my cars that would be very expensive for others to do. I also do not re-use parts when removed. for example when changing the timing chain and gears. we do not clean up and put back on the old water pump or fuel pump. they get new units. When we do a system. like the brakes. we go from front to back and replace everything as a complete system service. never a partial repair. Same for the power steering. we put on all new hoses and a rebuilt pump. not just one part of the system. I believe in building in reliability and a complete mechanical restoration when we work on a car. it may take a year or so since time isn't important. but when finished it's like new. Here is a list of work performed during the twelve (12) years I’ve owned the car: New master cylinder (not rebuilt). all metal brake lines flushed out with solvent and compressed air. all rubber brake hoses replaced with new. both front disc brake calipers replaced. new rear wheel cylinders. rear brake shoe hold down hardware and springs. new brake lining front and rear. fill entire system with DOT 5 Silicone Brake fluid which preserves and keeps parts in shape much longer than corrosive DOT 3 or 4 brake fluidDriveshaft constant velocity joints rebuilt with new U-Joints. at same time rear seal on transmission and pinion seal on rear axle were replaced. Rear axle fluid drained and replaced with new and new outer axle seals and bearings. Transmission fluid drained. new filter installed. new transmission modulator. filled to specs with new fluid Optional trailer towing. HD option. external transmission cooler added from a scrapped Lincoln that had the option. this keeps the transmission fluid cooler. Also added external secondary Wix brand filter inline near radiator Power steering system flushed. all new lines. both pressure and return. HD trailer towing external cooler installed from same car as above mentioned that had the option. this also keeps the power steering fluid cooler for longer life. Added inline Wix brand external filter near radiator. fill system with new power steering fluid to specs All new radiator hoses. heater hoses. both heater water flow control valves so that when A/C is on maximum no hot water flows to heater core. for colder A/C outlet temperature. Power flush engine. install new 180 degree thermostat. Radiator was taken to an experienced old radiator shop here in town. cooked out. cleaned and pressure checked. it’s also the HD trailer towing 3 row core model. not the thinner standard one. System filled with long life anti-freeze. not the standard green type. New. not rebuilt. water pump. and all belts. new heater core New Cloyes HD Timing chain and gears installed. along with rebuilt distributor. set and adjust timing to specs Spark plugs. plug wires. cap & rotor. Motorcraft electronic ignition module (blue grommet). all replaced Rebuilt carburetor. new choke pull off. adjust carb to specs for proper idle mixture. speed. etc. new fuel pump. Air Conditioning system charged with Freeze 12. a drop in substitute for R-12 that does not require modifications to the refrigerant oil or system. it performs the same as Freon 12. much better than R-134 conversions that don’t work well in older cars with suction throttling valves as on this Lincoln Set of five (5) Cooper Trendsetter SE P235/75R15 tires within 500 miles. all balanced on center line of rim like Ford did when new. no external weights showing that mar the finish of the aluminum wheel due to electrolytic reaction between metals Car is very well optioned. with many more options than you will find on most 70’s Lincolns for sale. Every single option works properly. such as the power door locks. dual power seats (both sides are 6 way). power windows including the mini-vents. cruise control. autolamp system (headlights stay shut for weeks. system is vacuum tight). interval windshield wipers. power trunk release. AM-FM stereo radio and power antenna. CB option transmits and receives properly (front speakers mute music when CB is on. rear continue playing music). Cartier clock keeps perfect time. Automatic climate control A/C-Heater works properly. system delays heat in cool weather so you don’t get a cold blast. comes on when engine is hot. modulates temperature to keep interior at set point (70-75 degrees etc). rear window defroster works properly. no broken grids. all lines heat evenly. passengers side seat has reclining seat back and both front seats have automatic seat back release when either door is opened for easy access to back seat. Car drives very well. smooth and quiet on the road. The 400 cubic inch (6. 6 Litre) V8 with a 2 barrel carburetor is more than enough power . The steering is straight in alignment. wheel is centered. Transmission shifts very smoothly. A pleasure to drive if you’ve never experienced a true 5000 pound luxury car from a bygone era. A car built with a heavy full frame rather than unit body like modern cars. The pictures show the condition of the vehicle. and you are welcome to schedule a personal inspection. Don’t miss this chance to own a Lincoln from a Lincoln collector. not a speculator or dealer flipping cars for a living. I still have too many after selling this one. two more 1979’s. a 1976. 1974 and a 1966 4dr convertible. plus a 77 Grand Marquis for good measure! A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within one (1) day of your winning bid. with the balance paid by Cash in Person or bank wire transfer within seven (7) days of date of sale. I need the space after that for working on my other cars. I’ve done my best to describe some of the features that you might find important. As a potential buyer of a car that is soon to be 36 model years old. unless the car is represented as perfect (which this is not). you need to be aware that there are many smaller things that may or may not work. or may work one day and not the next. in this car. This is due to the fact that it is over 35 years old. There may be some imperfections here and there. When bidding on the car please keep this in mind.
