Description of 1976 Lincoln Mark Series Versailles

1976 Lincoln Mark IV

With Versailles Option

Here you will find an honest description of this car. It is long, but if you are truly interested and want to know what you are buying, I would suggest reading the entire descriptive text.

I am an individual selling my personal car. My neighbor was so kind as to let me use his driveway for the photos. I thought it was a perfect background for this car.

I purchased this car approximately 1 ½ years ago. I have owned six Mark IV’s, including three ‘76’s. I had the idea that my Wife would enjoy driving a really cool classic Mark, so I surprised her. She did drive it to the grocery store once before handing me the keys, telling me that it was too much car for her. So much for my idea! It is a wonderful car and I like it very much, but I don’t need it and have others.

History

This car is from the Tyler, Texas area until I purchased it. Also prior to my purchase, it had not been driven for over 30 years. To my knowledge the original owner who was a lady became unable to drive and it sat in the garage all that time. During the time the car was active, it was driven often for short distances. When I purchased it, the car needed a cleaning, but was in remarkable condition.

Miles

I have no doubt that the miles are an actual and original 19,849 miles. Though the miles are not documented on paper, I think the car itself leaves no doubt as to its accuracy. When I bought this car, it had all its original factory parts still intact. It had the original belts, radiator, radiator and heater hoses, vacuum lines, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, thermostat, brakes, including, brake hoses, rotors, calipers, pads front and rear, master cylinder, shocks, brake booster, hydro boost unit, power steering pump and hoses, exhaust, including both converters, muffler which is still in good shape and even the ground straps that attach to the exhaust pipes on both sides. The exhaust can be seen in the photos Thee only things that were not original to the car were the tires and paint. There is no way a ’76 Mark IV would still have all of these parts still original if it had 119,000 miles. It wasn’t even dirty on the underside. The car drives like a new 1976 Lincoln Continental Mark IV. 19,849 actual miles. It still has all of the original factory markings on the engine compartment components, under the hood, on fenders and the firewall.

Description-Mechanical

Motor

-460 C.I. original to the car with original 4 barrel Carburetor. No issues or leaks. All parts needed have been replaced and updated.

Transmission

-C-6 Automatic Transmission-Original, no issues.

Air Conditioning

-The Air Conditioning is still R-12. It blows cold and the climate control works as it should. No issues.

Suspension

-The original suspension is excellent with no issues. As can be seen in the photos, the car sits as it should. It also rides and handles just as would be expected.

Exhaust

-The exhaust is excellent! As mentioned before, the exhaust system is original. It still has the original exhaust and tail pipes, catalytic converters and ground straps.

Brakes

-The brakes were replaced when I purchased the car, approximately 150 miles ago and are excellent.

Body & Paint & Top

-These are in very good condition. All sheet metal on this car is in excellent condition and is rust free. This includes all floors, rockers and under the vinyl top. There are no dents or dings. Floor pan photos are included in this auction. You can see them in the ebay picture viewer at the top left.

-The Original color 1J Diamond Fire Silver paint is very nice also. It has had one repaint, being silver and in Texas. I would rate the paint condition very good with few flaws. The appearance of the paint is clear and the car is beautiful in person.

-The original top shows few flaws and is in exceptional condition.

The dash, carpet, seats, door panels, rear package tray, illuminated vanity mirrors and headliner are very nice. The heal pad and pedals show little wear.

Tires

-Excellent! Replaced 150 miles ago.

Summary

This is a very nice car. It is unrestored and 41 years old, but in my opinion is an outstanding example of a beautiful low mileage Mark IV. Full disclosure
I stated that I put 150 miles on the car. I actually put 314 miles on. This is can be seen on the trip meter which was set the day I purchased it. Also, all gauges work properly, including the fuel gauge. The only electronic parts that do not work at this time are the clock and power antenna. The antenna had been in the up position since the car was new and is frozen in that position. This is a car that you can fly in and drive home.
