Description of 1987 Lotus Esprit

1987 Lotus Esprit Turbo HCICalypso Red / Tan LeatherRemovable Targa RoofClean CarfaxI am going to start with what I know is needed. I am a passionate car guy and like selling the same way I like to buy. transparent. I am more of a muscle car guy which is the reason for the sale. This car is just so great looking when offered. I had to buy it! I purchased this car from a friend in Florida roughly a year ago due to a employment relocation. He purchased it from Prestige Imports in Miami. a Lotus dealer. After the birth of my son a couple years ago I started collecting a few cool cars for him. for later in life when he could appreciate them. Well. I got a little carried away and since I like 60' era Corvette's a lot more than Lotus's. she needs to go. I have been in the automotive business for over 20 years and can ensure a simple & painless transaction for any interested buyers. I own a large wholesale operation that deals with some of the most reputable dealers in Maryland. I recently had a inspection completed on the car after a battery caused it not to start. While there. he noticed a slow leak around the water pump needing replacement plus. he recommended it was time to replace the timing belt. It was replaced at some point. but Lotus recommends every 5 years or 30. 00 miles so in this circumstance it's due to time. not miles. The car has been regularly started and driven but has only traveled roughly 1. 00 miles over the last 7 years. They also replaced the battery and installed a Pertronix pick up coil in the distributor. The car does need 2 black bumper mounts/bolts for the passenger side. They must have been loose and fallen out at some point. This is why it is a bit uneven in the pictures. I figured before I spend the money. I would put it on the market so anyone that's a little handy with these engines could really get a great deal on a magnificent car. It simply needs a few wear & tear items to be 100%. The car does start right up and once warm. has a very smooth idle. With that being said it's on to the good stuff. The engine bay trim panels & instrument cluster face have been color matched to the exterior Calypso Red and look great. This was done by a professional body shop so it looks like it came from the factory. very nice. The car has had a very basic methanol system installed by a Lotus specialty shop in Florida. This cools down the air intake temperature by spraying a methanol mist into the intake. nbsp;while increasing the octane rating of whatever fuel is in the tank. Only premium fuel has been run through the car and I just purchased a 5 gallon container of VP Racing Methanol. which will come with the purchase. A 5 gallon of VP methanol will run you under $50 and that's the best methanol on the market. There is a small container located in the engine bay that you fill when needed. In all honesty. I have put under 100 miles on the car since I purchased it. so I don't have a exact figure as to how often it needs refilling. The car does have a upgraded stainless steel Borla exhaust system on it. which gives it a exhilarating exhaust note. It's not to loud and it doesn't have a annoying drone while driving down the road. Sometime between 2008-2011 (around 32. 00 miles) the clutch & flywheel were replaced. Around that time the turbo was also removed & rebuilt. I am currently trying to hunt down the receipts for this work. They were with the car when Prestige Imports sold it in 2012. The plugs. wires and again just recently. Pertronix ignition pick up. nbsp;have also been replaced. The exterior of the car is in stunning condition for being 28 years old. Just prior to my purchase. the car went through a full paint correction detail costing around $2. 00 and taking a week to complete. It has been garaged ever since and still shows like new. with the exception of few rock chips throughout which is to be expected. Nothing terrible. I just had all of the wheels re-conditioned and polished and at that time they completed a 3 step leather cleaning & conditioning. It smells as it should with a very rich leather scent. I do find all of these 80's exotic sports cars to have the best smelling interiors. The car comes with custom red floor mats with the Lotus logo. targa top bag and books. If you have any questions. feel free to call me between 9am - 10pm any day. The car is located in Finksburg. MD and I have a clean title in hand. If you would like a copy of the Carfax. feel free to just call ask. I can email it over. And if curious YES. the 88' BMW M3 is for sale too. It will be on ebay shortly. Jason 301-325-7878
