Description of 1980 Mazda RX-7 --

Michael's Motor Cars is pleased to offer a very special street/strip 1979 Mazda RX-7. This car was sold on e-bay a few years ago for just under $14,000. For convenience and accuracy, we are reprinting the original ad with the previous owner's permission. We would like to add that the body and chassis are very straight and rust free. All of the modifications have been done to a very high quality standard. The car can easily be driven on the street, however it is currently set-up for drag racing. This RX7 is incredibly fast. You can see it on You Tube videos under search RX80JOE. Up for sale is my 4 year project car (In my submission, it's about 90% done). A 1980 Series 1 RX-7. They only built the series 1 RX7 in 1979 - 1980 in America. You will NOT find a better series 1 in this condition in my opinion. That being said, this car is done RIGHT!! No short cuts, and I have video documented the car from start to finish. Videos are available on YouTube under the search name: rx80joe. If you have any questions please email me at: The car only has about 88,000 mile on the speedo (I can get exact mileage, if needed) After the car was finished I put only 1,200 miles on the car. I am the 2nd owner, and the reason I purchased the car was because it had a really great interior, low miles, and no rust, beside little spots on both doors (fixed). As you can tell in the videos on YouTube, this whole car was disassembled and stripped to bare metal during the body work and paint process. It is done RIGHT! Paint is an OE Japan color for the year: G4 Mach Green with 7 coats of Clear. The car was clear coated and wet sanded! A mirror finish (see photos). The paint job itself costed me $7,500! The engine work was completed by JP Imports (feel free to call Jim 717-484-8062), who is a specialist on building rotary engines, and is a world renown rotary builder. The engine build, parts and labor, with turbo, ran me $10,000. The custom exhaust and inter-cooling piping ran about $3,500, including the parts. I went with ALL NEW parts! Engine rebuild kit, RA super seals, NEW Mazda rotor housings from Mazda!!! I estimate that I have spent over $28,000 on building this car. The engine: Is a 1987 S4 turbo that had 40k on it. The engine is Half-Bridge port and is a head turner, and sounds great! Very loud, with a full 3" custom exhaust and muffler. The engine puts out about 350hp only at 11lbs of boost. I keep it there for break in. The car runs PERFECT, and it tuned PERFECT! Tuned by: Wilmeranic Mazda! It runs at 12:80 idle, 11:10 cruising and 10:60 A/F ratio during boost. The tune is very rich to prevent engine detonation! The trans and rear diff: The trans is stock, but I will include an S5 turbo trans with 60k, and a BRAND NEW "ACT" racing clutch kit! Just need to get a custom driveshaft made, which usually cost $250-350. The trans holds up very well, and so does the rear, which is a 1985 SE 4:10 ratio. The Interior: Is in great condition!! I recently had the shifter boot and console redone. Like great! Not much needed for the interior. Maybe a new rug to top it off. Headliner, dash and seats are flawless. There is so much more I could add, like new weatherstrips, emblems, and so on! This car is VERY FUN to drive, and is VERY FAST, and turns a lot of heads. People come up to me all the time asking about it. I ran this car at Pan Americans in 2016, and the best time was 12.85 @ 120mph. If tuned to 15lbs you will hit 11's all day! Drive it to the track, and drive it home! What the car could use: 2 Mazda Emblems for the front header panel and rear. Undercoating, even though the car is garage kept. The M&H rear tires are a tad large for the car, as they rub when you go over a large bump. Nothing major, you can just mount a smaller tires, or install coil overs, or roll the 1/4 panels, as those would fix the problem. No big deal. Nothing really I can add here, except for those points I mentioned. ============================= The Build: (ALL BRAND NEW PARTS) S4 13b turbo Half-Bridge NEW S4 Turbo rotor housings from Mazda.
