Description of 1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE

Hard times force the sale of this very collectible. top of the line first generation Mazda RX-7. The "flagship" GSL-SE. Produced only 2 years with the fuel injected 13B (1. 3). beefier suspension and brakes. close ratio 5 speed. 135 HP and more low end torque than the normally aspirated 12A (1. 1) RX-7. This car has sat inside since approx. 1989 or earlier. It did have a fender bender at some point early in its life as evidenced by front fenders being resprayed back in the day but had been repaired very nicely. Other than the 2 fenders and top of passenger door the car retains its original "Sunrise Red" factory paint. I purchased this car with the intention of making an original low mileage show car out of it. but job loss and family matter now take priority. My loss - your opportunity. Brief history; car sat locally inside. not driven from approximately 1989 or shortly before that until my purchase in 2013. After purchasing it and having it delivered. I set about to go through every system since it had not been on the road in so long. I began by cleaning and detailing the engine in place. replaced all the various rubber vacuum lines. rubber parts and gaskets that had dried out due to years of storage. I also had the factory injectors professionally cleaned and new caps installed and rubber grommets. Fuel rail was also redone. All gaskets were replaced to prevent vacuum leaks. oil pan dropped. oil filter mount "o rings" replaced. cleaned. painted the block ("Killer B" scheme - yellow & black) and installed. Clutch not replaced. was original with 43K miles. Transmission fluid drained and replaced with new. radiator flushed with hose. but could probably stand a professional flush. Plugs were cleaned. inspected and reinstalled. Oil cooler not leaking anywhere. Because of the low original miles. most was left alone. only dried out gaskets and rubber lines were replaced to maintain its originality and value. AC still holding charge. Original belts. plug wires smog pump everything was left intact. Original cats were hollow and had holes so they were thrown away. factory exhaust manifold had a crack and broken stud so it was tossed. replaced by factory cast iron 13b one from 1991 model 13B. Car really needs a Racing beat setup. so I was not going to invest a lot of money into factory cats etc. I kept the original exhaust shielding and it goes with the car. Engine pic shows work in progress. Radiator and fan/shroud since installed and engine completed. Car needs very little to put back on the road. unfortunately I do not have the finances to complete the project. Wonderful opportunity for someone to get an unmolested. original low mileage car fast appreciating in value . and its factory RED (w/gray) one of the best color combos Mazda released. ! I kow I will regret selling this car once my situation improves but can't do anything about that at the present. Car runs but will have to be trailered to its new home due to exhaust. original tires and brakes not having been checked. Engine spins freely. Good compression pulses. I haven't talked much about the interior because there is not much to say. Its mint with original period aftermarket floor mats (from Pacific). Mileage is original. Carpets not faded. no odor inside. not smoked in as far as I can tell. No mice have been in the car either. I have tried to describe this vehicle to the best of my ability and point out any flaws or defects it might have. Buyer needs to understand that this car has been sitting pretty much in one spot since 1989 and may need additional work to be roadworthy. I have tried to point out what I would do. but others may chose to do differently. cars like this don't come along everyday. so don't regret having not bid on it after its gotten away. Thank you for looking and happy bidding. I will gladly answer any questions and tell you as much as I know about the vehicle. I have owned GSL-SE's since buying my first one new in 1985. so I am familiar with the cars. this is an outstanding example of the breed and someone should be very happy with their purchase. I'd like to see it go to a collector or enthusiast but I have not control over that.
