Description of 1980 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 230GE GE GD 4x4 Base

Check zombiemotors.net for more photos and information on this truck and other inventory. This vehicle is ready for collection now in Savannah, eorgia with all paperwork to obtain title, uaranteed. I am a licensed bonded, nsured seller. I travel back and forth between Savannah and Portland ORegon and can help with transportation from coast to coast. After sale transport will not be a problem, but figure on up to $1000 depending on where you live, nd all transport costs are to be paid by buyer.
You are encouraged to come and see this truck in person before you bid, f you can. You are not encouraged to bid on this truck, nd then haggle on price or condition after the auction is over.
VIN# is WDB4602391705114, ut the ebay robot does not recognize this European format. Truck IS a 1987 Model Year, espite what the ebay robot fills in there.
I really love this truck, but need to sell something soon to pay for my recent move to Savannah - If I can sell my 1974 VW 'Thing' Type 181 first, would sell it instead of this, but in the meantime I have put this up on the auction block as I am afraid I must..
This vehicle is for sale locally/ at any time for $13,900 or something mighty close to it- I reserve the right to end this auction at any time for a real cash buyer. If you are genuinely interested in buying this truck, call me at 912-414-8993 or send me your phone # so I can call you. I apologize, ut I do not have time to send many emails back and forth, nd it seems that the people who are serious about buying will actually want to speak 'live' anyway.
$500 deposit due at end of auction, balance due within 5 days by bank transfer, ire transfer, check or money order or cash on collection. No Exceptions, nless you have called me first to make other arrangements. If you have less than 10 feedback, r just joined ebay, call me before placing a bid or I will have to cancel it. New ebayers often like to bid and win, nd then not follow through with the sale which is very unfortunate for sellers, nd ebay does little to prevent or help with this.
Now onto the G-Wagon!
I just imported this from a sunny European country, very original classic and vintage Mercedes G-wagen in in excellent condition and has been well taken care of over the years and has seen little use. I am now using this truck every day and loving it! Could use some cosmetic help, but this is definitely one solid truck that you can drive while you make perfect, f you desire, r you can use it now every day.
The reason I bought this truck is I was in love with the color and interior color/ combo. Original paint buffs out and shines like new! Interior looks great too. Everything works on this truck, and so you can assume anything I do not speak about in the ad is working fine, unless I say otherwise here.
Truck has an original 86,281 KM, hich translates into 53,490 miles! I was skeptical until I sat in the drivers seat, and drove a bit, hen was convinced. Seat is firm and not sprung/ tired, and truck drives very solid and nice. There is some play in the steering wheel, hich I have not looked at yet, but chassis is tight and drives like a big sedan - and corners very well. This drives much better than a Range Rover or Discovery (Or Defender 90/110) -- Very tight and comfortable, his.
Brakes are powerful and feel great. Engine starts right up and runs great. This is a 2.3L 4-cylinder overhead cam fuel injected gasoline engine. It has about 125 horsepower, nough to get it up to about 80-85MPH, but this is not a fast or especially powerful truck. This is rather 'quaint' with wind up windows and non-power seats, but the MErcedes build quality is there -- Perfect door gaps all around, nice door shut with a 'clunk', good paint, super-solid frame and chassis. Very high quality 4x4 -- blows everything else of this era away as far as quality goes.
Transmission shifts perfectly and I was told it had a new clutch, nd it 'feels' new, and there was an old one in the back in a box.... but I do not know for a fact it was changed. I would say so, hough.
Everything works; all lights, blower motor, ipers, indows all go up and down (non-powe, emember!, oor locks, eats adjust, everything great.
Engine/ transmission/ radiator NO LEAKS of any kind, tarts right up and sounds great, no smoke, xcellent. It currently has an exhaust leak from a missing exhaust manifold gasket, but I have ordered a set of these, nd will be replacing them as soon as they come in. Trans feels great. Brakes are great.
NOW FOR THE BAD STUFF :
A) The worst thing about this truck? There is rust around the rear passenger side taillight and around the fuel filler. This is a very common area on these to rust as there was no shield installed to keep mud out of these places when the truck was made, and it would collect and rust there, despite there being no rust anywhere else on the trucks. Drivers side does not have this issue, and I DO have a brand-new panel that needs to be welded in and painted, from Mercedes (Yes, ll parts are available for this truck from the dealer still) So, his quarter is ugly, but you do get a brand-new one with the auction. IF the truck does not sell this time around, I will get this fixed and painted and put it up for sale again at a higher price.
B) All around there are scratches and dings in the paint. Nothing terrible, but even though paint will buff out and shine great, there will always be some scratches! There is even a slight dent under the passenger side rear window. The grill surround (black) also has some dents, but if it bothers you a lot, brand new one is $300 at the dealer.
C)The only other signs of rust I have found are under the rubber trim strip which covers the lower sills -- This is still surface rust though, nd not rust-through ---- when quarter is being replaced have the trim removed and then have paint shop grind and paint these lower sills, nd you will still be golden.
D) Missing inside rear door release lever on door behind spare tire. Opens easily with screwdriver.
E) Missing one rear door trim panel (square, mall)
F) Trim all around inside truck is coming untucked and unglued in places --- Still all in excellent condition, but to be perfect would have to be tucked back behind panels and re-glued perhaps. Should not take much time, and is very minor, but there it is.
G) Exhaust leak from torn gasket as mentioned above. This will be fixed by me as soon as new gaskets arrive.
H) Despite having 4-cylinder engine, oes not get great mileage (normal with these trucks, hey are very heavy) ---- I get about 14-15MPG around town, nd 16-17 on the freeway pushing it at 75MPH.
I) Speedo needle flickers around 60MPH (100KMH) --- May be normal, r cable may be going to go someday soon.
EXCELLENT POINTS:
Very low miles.
Runs and drives excellent.
Chassis / frame 100% rust free, nd very solid! Truck came out of the desert in Spain, and is very solid other than the anomalous rust in the one rear quarter from wet mud being left in there after some rain. Floors perfect, under-hood perfect, doors perfect, all solid.
Dash looks great, o cracks, nd everything works.
No leaks. No funny noises. Drives great. Period correct Becker Europa radio/ tape deck works too!
In short a great, intag, ollectible piece of Mercedes history for sale here in very good condition. There is some room for improvement, ut I am not asking for restored or perfect truck money, ither. In my opinion this is the best color/ interior option too - And will make some lucky person a great SUV to use, nd will get a lot of good attention from people while you smile your way down the street, rying to keep up with traffic.
