Description of 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 300TD Wagon, W123

Up for sale is my 1983 Mercedes 300TD Turbo Station Wagon, r Estate as they say in Europe. This exceptionally rare car has been my daily driver since 1999. It starts and runs great getting between 20-26 mpg of diesel depending on driving conditions. It has the original Champagne exterior paint and vinyl MB-Tex interior . I have maintained it using only appropriate OEM parts, o weird modifications. I did add cup holders in the center console, hey can be easily removed. My bad back and the steady accumulation of years prevent me from doing the regular maintenance and repairs required of a 32 year old Mercedes, o I must sadly let her go. I have spent over $4200 in repairs during the past year which will pay great dividends for the future owner. Please read all of the following pros and cons about the car before contacting me. This is the perfect classic car for the right buyer. Who is the right buyer? Someone who loves and appreciates the pre-1985 Mercedes diesels, arvels of German engineering, nd who understands the commitment to regular maintenance required to keep them running for another 32 years. I have provided 24 photos of the car, hope you enjoy them whether you bid or not.

  • The Pros:
    • Engine runs great with excellent turbo power. Starts every time.
    • Automatic transmission works fine in all gears including reverse.
    • Power windows work. Front windows work smoothly having had their motors replaced, ear windows are jerky and frankly I don't use them.
    • Windshield washers and wipers, oth front and rear, ork well. Yes, he rear washer works great too.
    • Manual moon roof or sun roof, lides open as it should. Wagons came with manual sun roofs that last forever, oo bad about the sedans with automatic roofs that broke and are impossible to repair.
    • Luggage rack or ski rack is shiny, eautiful, nd strong.
    • Split rear seats fold down easily for huge cargo space.
    • Auto-levelling hydro-pneumatic rear suspension recently repaired, orks great.
    • Fan blower and heater work well.
    • Hella front headlights upgrade, right, xpensive, orth it.
    • Block heater works great for cold-weather starting, ust plug it in to any US electrical outlet.
    • Dash is NOT CRACKED. A miracle, till looks great.
    • All wood except for lower piece around window switches is beautiful.
    • All lights work, ncluding the ashtray light ;-)
    • Genuine Sheepskin seat covers.
    • Original paint.
    • Frame is perfect and straight.
    • Original first aid kit.
    • Bilstein jack.
    • Full-spare tire, heel in great shape.
    • Original bundt wheels.
    • Front tires great, ear tires old but with plenty of tread.
    • Brakes work perfect but do squeak.
    • Battery new, -year old.
    • Texas car with clean and clear title.
    • Long documented service history with receipts.

  • Replaced or repaired (over $4200 in the past year):
    • Auto-leveling suspension parts including accumulators
    • Wheel bearing
    • Ignition lock cylinder
    • A/C compressor and A/C lines
    • Oil cooler lines
    • Turbo gasket
    • Oil filter housing gasket
    • Windshield (2009)
    • Hella headlights
    • Battery
  • The Cons:
    • 32 year old car with many scrapes and bruises, ot a show car but a daily driver. Around 250,000 miles, dometer is intermittent.
    • Rear right wheel well is scraped and dented.
    • Original paint is old and tired, ome spots of clear coat peeling.
    • Two small rust areas, ne the size of a dime under right side door trim, ther on lower frame left side. Both were there when I bought the car 16-years ago and have not spread. Not worth fixing, ee photos.
    • Radio is junk, ntennae motor does not work.
    • Cruise control does not work, ever did.
    • Bottom wood console around window switches needs to be replaced, est of wood around upper center console and glove box is beautiful.
    • Carpet and floor mats are original. Functional but worn.
    • Seats and MB-Tex vinyl is original, ot bad, ut 32-years old. Seat cushions sag.
    • Front shocks should be replaced.
    • Steering is loose but functional.
    • Brakes squeak but work great.
    • Spotty oil leaks, eeds new valve cover gasket.
    • Multiple vacuum leaks, asily repaired but annoying, oors lock slowly.
    • A/C does not work despite new compressor and lines. Mechanic failed to seal the lines to the compressor properly, xpensive R-12 leaked out.
