Description of 1984 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class RARE EURO CONVERTIBLE WITH 51K ORIGINAL MILES!

Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a dealer will post all but the most flattering of professionally finished photographs. We prefer to post the many photos taken of the car, n sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight, n order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree.

West Coast Classics are proud to present an extremely rare original owner example of this 1984 Mercedes 280SL European imported model roadster with very desirable original factory options included the rare and very unique checked fabric cloth interior, riginal 'Lapis Blue Metallic' color (code 932) paint, nti-lock brakes, ower steering, ir conditioning, Becker' radio/cassette, inted glass, atching Blue German canvas soft top and original factory hard top! Purchased and imported by original and only owners in 1984 from a Mercedes-Benz dealer of Frankfurt, ermany and always garaged and babied as evidenced by the stunning condition of the original interior!
By 1963 the 190SL (Super Light) and the 300SL Roadster were neither Super or Light and the 190SL was simply too heavy to compete with the likes of even the British MG or Triumph and completely underpowered compared to the Austin-Healeys or Jaguars. Mercedes had two choices, ither return to the premise of the original 300SL and build another pure sports car or create a new grand touring sports car that would continue the reputation of the SL's as touring cars rather than super racing cars. The 280 SL was introduced in December 1967 and continued in production through 23 February 1971, when the W113 was replaced by its successor, the entirely new R107 350 SL.
By the early 1980's, n elite few American enthusiasts who desired the more handsome European models, hich were not being sold in the US, ere starting to import the cars at great expense in order to avail themselves of the true SL driving experience. One such buyer was a prominent businessman and it was reportedly always serviced at Mercedes independent specialists or dealerships since new.
This particular example simply must be seen to be appreciated - the original factory 'Lapis Blue Metallic' (Code 932) color paint is very striking and original with only very minor blemishes. The chrome work is all excellent and the original and rare checked fabric interior is quite stunning. The original leather dashboard is still virtually perfect and the seats and carpets have all obviously been covered! The original Blue German canvas soft top is still virtually as new and by all accounts hardly ever used and the hard top is also as new. There is no history of any accidents or rust.
The car is well equipped with its factory air conditioning, ecker' radio/cassette, ower steering and two tops. With only one owner since new and still titled to its original family owner as in 1984, his is one very rare example of an all original desirable European model 107 series SL roadster with only 51K original miles. This should prove to be a highly collectible and desirable 1984 280SL 6 cylinder roadster in very fine condition throughout!
