Description of 1970 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Black Leather

Very nice 1970 Mercedes-Benz 250C Model W114 2 dr. hardtop coupe with 79,0XX actual miles (< 1700 miles per year). There were only 10,527 of the model #114.023 2 dr. coupes built with the largest available 2.8 L SOHV six cylinder engine built between 1969 and 1973 each with 108” WB and 184” overall length with 18 MPG est. This one was bought new by a lady in Wayne Co Illinois and used very sparingly – always kept garaged and under a car cover. The ID / Vin number is 114.023-12-000087 model 114.023. The engine is the largest available SOHC 2.8 liter 6 cylinder gas (143 HP / 173 ft-lb torque with two 2 barrel Zenith carbs, 4 speed AT, AC 4WDB, 4Wheel/Independent/Suspension, PS, original AM-FM radio and RWD. Original immaculate spare trunk mat, tire and jack – with no rust under the mat. As you can clearly see in the pictures this car is in very good condition and it starts, runs accelerates, stops, shifts and drives flawlessly. In my opinion, with minor fluid changes and inspections, this car could safely be driven any distance. The interior is perfect except for carpet wear on the left side of the drivers front area and cracks in the rubber heal pad - factory front mats are almost perfect. New Michelin X-one 205-75-14 tires are installed. The paint is original except for the passenger side front fender below the trim where the minor rust at the bottom was repaired – the driver’s side lower front fender is original and the minor rust is shown in one of the pictures. There is also minor rust behind each rear tire below the bumper – trunk lowers. The only body filler in the car will be at the bottom of the pass front fender when the minor rust on the fender was repaired – it was done correctly as there are no bubbles in the area. There are NO bubbles of rust on any sheet metal anywhere else on this car – bottom of doors, hood or trunk lid – this car is 98% rust free and with 90% original paint you can see that for yourself.

The original paint is very solid and shiny but not clear with the hood and top having minor hail damage with the hood being the worst – (see picture). The tops of the front fenders are shiny but the paint is showing its age as expected. The bumpers, rubber inserts and stainless trim are all straight and in excellent condition with the missing grill bar piece being in the dash pocket (plastic clips broken). There are no chips or cracks in the windshield or any other glass and only very faint wiper marks on the windshield. The driver’s door inside manual lock has the plastic actuator portion broken but it is also in the dash pocket. There is a round M-B badge missing on the top of the grill (note hole below spring loaded emblem) but the top mounted spring loaded M-B emblem is immaculate. There is no corrosion under the car to speak of considering where the car has been driven. It has AC but it hasn’t been driven regularly for the past 20 plus years and there is no owner’s manual and with the dash controls that are not conventional I have not tried the AC. The factory AM/FM radio works but the speaker is weak and the only minor dash cover issue is with the speaker cover – the dash pad/cover is perfect with no signs of fading or cracking. There is absolutely zero signs of any leather stress cracks or wear on any part of the interior black leather. Seat belts are in excellent condition and are also M-B 1970’s Kangol original.

This car fits easily between a low #2 and a high #3 rating and has a value from Hagerty value of between $7,800 to $11,500. This car is located in Southern Illinois about 100 miles east of St Louis (it has a 1995 MO inspection tag in the windshield). I will try to answer any questions you have about the car but I am not a Mercedes person – please call 713-203-3875 (Britt). If you looking for a fairly rare and fairly priced 1970 Mercedes Benz time capsule – this one may be the car you have been looking for. Most of these cars are rusty and have been painted to cover up the damage repair – this one is in solid condition and has obviously been pampered.
