The original owner of this beautiful 1983 Mercedes Benz 240D purchased the car while stationed in Germany as a Officer in The US Army. The vehicle was driven and enjoyed in Germany through 1985 and comes with all the original documentation from the purchase date and service receipts from Germany. This vehicle was purchased as a US Specification vehicle and is noted on the original Bill of Sale (Code 419).
The car was brought to the US, in 1985 and every service receipt is in order since new (Over 90 documents). This particular vehicle spent most of its life in South Carolina, where it was garage kept and never subjected to winter weather. If you look closely at the condition of the vehicle's engine bay and undercarriage you will see that the vehicle is exceptionally clean and rust free. The vehicle runs and drives straight and tight like a well maintained Mercedes Benz should.
Brakes were serviced in 2016, and the vehicle's AC blows strong and ice cold. The vehicle just had a oil change and air filter change using OEM parts.
The paint on the car is in showroom condition as the owner had the car professionally refinished approximately 10 years ago by a restoration specialist in South Carolina. The vehicle was refinished in its original color as the original finish was starting to fade on the topsides. The original bright-work on the car is in excellent condition and the all original glass is also in excellent condition all around.
Along with the repaint the interior seating was refurbished by Monck's Corner Upholstery in Monks Corner South Carolina at about the same time. Original Becker stereo sounds great, and the power antenna still works, but is a bit sticky at times. Optional manual sunroof is great, as you don't have to worry about cable and motor issues which are prevalent on the automatic sunroofs.
The vehicle come with 5 keys, all the original books and manuals, original unused spare tire, tool and even a Bollini steel Mercedes Benz spare gas tank. The engine bay has not been restored, and looks like it was from a 20k mile example. Gold cadmium plating is still bright on the engine components as well as the cadmium plating components on the undercarriage. The original paint inside the engine bay still shows beautifully with no rust present.
Please look closely at all photos of the vehicle below including photos of engine bay and undercarriage. Very minor flaws include some hairline cracks in Zebrano interior wood, and cracked plastic trim on passenger side front window crank. The vehicle also comes with a light weight trailer hitch which was used to trailer a lightweight aluminum fishing boat by the previous owner.
Overall I would say that this vehicle is in exceptional condition and by far the nicest w123 I have seen with this mileage. Pride in ownership !
