I purchased this low mileage Mercedes based on it's condition and the fact that I had owned one (a diesel version) years ago, when my family was much younger. They are wonderful cars; big, safe, powerful, strong and amazingly comfortable. The previous owners' widow told me all about the car and it's history.
I found the car here in Northern Arizona. It had been sent here from Hawaii as the doctor who owned it was set to retire in the area. He passed away before before he made the move, and the car sat for some time at a relatives home before I purchsed it. I was told that two doctors had owned the car, one on the island of Oahu and the other on the drier island of Hawaii. The car was maitained to a high standard, and as it spent time on an island, the mileage was very low.
One might expect to find a great deal of rust on a car from Hawaii, but this was not the case. There was some surface rust, but nothing unusual. The only rust issue worth dealing with was a small area the size of a dime on the rear deck, by the lower right side of the rear window. I had it repaired by a reputable body shop in town. The interor trim wood was delaminating in some areas, so I had it removed and sent to Madera Concepts for restoration. It is perfect now. The original interior is in very good condition. A few of the seems are separating but overall the leather is very presentable. The car has new (100 mile) Hankook tires and I purchased beautiful updated wheels. I also installed new Eurostyle headlights ( I have the originals).
Mechanically I have been all through the car. New belts, valve cover gaskets, AC overhaul, new brake rotors, all filters, hoses (some very unique and expensive Mercedes hoses), new idle control unit, new fuel injectors (car idles fine now), climate control completely overhaul with all new vacum diaphragms, steering box rebuilt, new engine mounts, new hood pad, new cruise control unit, transmission maitanence and adjustment (it shifts smoothly) and much, much more. I have copies of all the reciepts that will come with car.
Overall the car is very presentable and completely mechanically relaible. Everything works including the electric antena. I have all the books and the original hang tags that came with car when it was new. I would drive it anywhere. I have invested a fortune in the car which I do not expect to realize. It is not perfect, but a beautiful low milege survivor. My mechanic tells me it was designed to run on regular gas, unlike the later 560's.
