Description of 1991 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Roadster

You are bidding on a 1991 Mercedes Benz 300SL. Like it's bigger brother (500SL V8), the 300SL is a roadster with its soft top hidden under an automatic trunk panel. The included hardtop is removable and, when in place, makes the 300SL a year round daily driver. If that is what you seek. If you want a true roadster - there are few sports cars and nice as the SL series from Mercedes.
The previous buyer sent this email :
Message:I'm sorry but after I finished bidding on your vehicle I checked to see where I could come and examine and complete purchase . and found that your nowhere near me, I thought you were here on the east coast, NY.NJ, CT, LI, etc. but you were too far for me to inspect this vehicle before making final payment. Please excuse my ignorance, I should have checked first to see where this vehicle was but it was such a fine vehicle as far as I can tell I only wish you were near me so we could finalize. I will be contact eBay about this error, again I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, I bought a vehicle on ebay 2 years ago on Long Island and was ready to make another purchase now but your nowhere near me to have my mechanic inspect this vehicle.
So I must relist. Please do not bid unless you agree that this is a contract and it is not a "Can I come and kick the tires". Very frustrating,

Known as the R129 model, this is reliable and economical, wonderfully driving roadster that looks like a million dollars. The 6 cylinder 300SL is surprisingly quick and very economical. I've owned several 300SLs and prefer them over the more thirsty (and heavier) 500SL. That being said, I am bullish on the R129 and own a 5 speed R129 and a 500SL with low mileage. As I am moving and have no space, this car must go. Hence the very low reserve.
Is she perfect - no. Here are the pros and cons
Pros -
Very reliableVery economicalTremendous presence - looks great in redVery nice interiorMany hours spent making her nice - I'll never see my investment return, but that OK, someone will get a great, entry level MB roadster.Wood is in great shape, far better than mostBluetooth radio with new speakers - sounds pretty darn goodVery low milesNo rustThe tires are in great shape with plenty of wear leftPower windows and seats work perfectly.Replaced the temperature control unit - works very well. Unsure if the A/C needs a charge, it was fine over the summer, but it's now cold here (Chicago) so I can guarantee it.Door panels are in great shape - as is the wood on the doors, which on R129's is always an issue.Carpet is in great shape - no rips on interior leather either.I redid the seats, as I do on most of my cars, see the pics, they look nearly newThere is a picture in front of my office building with 20" AMG rims. I put these rims on my other R129. The rims in the other pictures are what come with the car. The 20" rims are not included, but I needed the picture with the top down in the summer.New battery - $200
Cons
Top works - we rebuilt the pistons - but it's finickyNeeds fog-lights (but I have the lenses - included)Tow panel on front bumper missing - easy to find on ebayThe driver's side jack mount disappeared but I have another (needs to be painted)Indicative of a car with this many miles, mild scratches and perhaps a small ding here or there - but the pictures are a great representation of the car. She looks great in person. Some panels have been repainted. I had the hood repainted due to excessive chips - the paint match is nearly perfectThe rims have road rash but look fine. (I was going to restore them)
The convertible top is serviceable but would be better replaced at some point in the future. I never used it - when the top is down, it's down in good weather!
As this Mercedes is over 20 years old, there is no warranty implied or expressed. She is sold as is. I have described the car in a detail which I believe to be accurate - but - inspections are welcomed, questions are encouraged and you can arrange for a test drive and more pictures.
