Description for Mercury Monterey 1959

Up for sale is my 1959 Mercury Monterey. This is the last of my collection to go and I saved the best for last. When was the last time you saw one of these??? I know it’s an overused phrase, but this car gets tons of attention and has won several trophies in local car shows. I have never seen another one in person, so if you want a unique ride that’s going to draw attention, this is a good candidate. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer example than this car. I am the third owner of the car and know the history of the car. The car lived in Maryland it’s entire life, until I purchased it and brought it to Ohio.

This car has undergone a cosmetic and mechanical restoration.

The body was extremely solid and required only a few small patches in the rear quarter panels. I have pictures of car while it was undergoing body work/paint. Otherwise, remainder of body, including floor plans and trunk pan have zero rust. Frame is rock solid; has some minor surface rust, but hey it’s 58 years old. Bodywork was professionally done. Paint is nice driver quality and is approximately 5 years old. One tiny bubble starting to form on the front right door back corner. Car was originally all white. I opted to paint it an original ’59 Merc shade of blue, and accent the sides, roof, and added NOS cruiser skirts in a creamy white. All interior trim painted in a pewter color. Interior upholstery was professionally done with original NOS 59 Merc blue cloth and a creamy white premium vinyl. Door panels and seat pattern modeled after an original pattern from a 2 door convertible that I had. Seats, door panels, headliner and carpet were all redone. I used a bunch of NOS trim parts on this car, including dash clock that still works. On the exterior, I polished all of the stainless steel by hand. I used either NOS or good quality used pieces, and the chrome pieces were either NOS or professionally replated. Taillight lenses are NOS, with the silver sleeves, which are extremely rare since they are plastic and only secured with an adhesive. The driver’s side sleeve is cracked. There is zero pitting or dents on any of the trim. I removed the antennae and welded a plate it in to smooth out the front fender. I added the punisher mirrors to give it a little attitude. The gas and temp gauges no longer read accurately, but otherwise everything works as it should.

The 312 Y-block was professionally rebuilt by Bob Beach, of Bob Beach Performance. Built to stock standards. Engine block was in great shape, so it was just cleaned and honed. Crank and cam shaft polished. Rings and one piston replaced. New lifters, push rods, valve job with hardened seats, seals, etc. Added new Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor for a bit more power. Original intake and 2 barrel Holley carb comes with car. The Merc-o-matic transmission is original but shifts just fine and doesn’t make any funny noises. I’ve also rebuilt the front suspension and power steering components. Radiator was re-cored. Coker wide-whitewall tires have under 1k miles on them.

I would not hesitate to hop in this car and set off for whatever destination I wanted to. Car runs and drives very well. I also just had a disc brake conversion kit installed on the car, so the front is disc and rear is drum. All new Nickle Copper brake lines, so they will never rust. The original rims have a sliver of clearance to the new rotors. The company that manufactured the kit, and my trusted mechanic, both said to just drive the car any corrosion buildup on the backside of the rims will wear down. Since the car has less than 20 miles on the new disc brakes, they make a little bit of noise, but even in that short distance the slight rub has gotten better. With a few more miles, the noise should go away entirely. Disc brakes are so much better than the old drums! Note the pictures of the car show the old single master cylinder, but like I said, it was been upgraded to a dual master cylinder and new brake booster, along with the disc brakes, distribution block, and new lines.

Original pictures of car, and restoration pictures will be included. I also have a ton of used part, and perhaps some NOS parts if they don’t sell, and manuals for the car that will be included as well – many stainless/chrome pieces, etc. Too many parts to list.

You are welcome to come inspect the car, or have it inspected. I have nothing to hide. This is one of the nicest 59 Mercury’s around. You will not be disappointed.

Ask any questions prior to bidding. Buyer to arrange and pay for shipping, but I am happy to meet driver to help load it on a trailer.

Vehicle is for sale locally as well, so I reserve to end the auction at any time without warning.
