Description of 1964 Mercury Comet

Price reduced $4K! Selling my 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone project I bought as a running, driving, stock car in 1993. It was a factory red, 289 4V (K-code-210hp), 4-speed when purchased. Driven til 1997, then drive train pulled to put in brother's Caliente. Car has been in 4 body shops, and only the last fabricator, Thunderbolts in Callahan, performed great work. I am 71, lots of maladies & without the physical ability to finish. Was building this car to resemble the famed SOX & MARTIN A/FX Comet run during '64. No rust-'64 Cyclone body-fiberglass doors, fenders, hood, trunk, bumpers from Crites (have the original doors and fenders, in primer, and bumpers -all in great shape). Art Morrison rear sub-frame with 4-bar setup and Aldan coil-overs. Lincoln Versailles 9" rear with 31-spline 4.11 posi rear. Rear wheel wells mini-tubbed-room for 12" tires-does not interfere with back seat. Rod & Custom Mustang II suspension with Aldan coil-overs also. Professionally rebuilt Doug Nash 5-speed with very nice Mr. Gasket vertical gate 5-speed shifter and boot (stainless steel shift rods with hiem joints). Disc brakes front and rear. Brand new COMPLETE Factory NOS red interior with console (not installed until wiring is completed). Factory radio (C-O-M-E-T) restored (ipod, mp3, am/fm)- looks stock. NOS Comet Cyclone tachometer. Speedometer restored with 140-mph graphic (looks stock). All new factory gauges with additional Thunderbolt style SW 2-5/8" oil pressure and temp gauges. Pulled the C5AE-MR motor to install this 1971 Ford Service Replacement 428cj block (yes they did make them!) Over $5000 in machine work on block, not to include heads (receipts). Cross bolted block with 1-piece 2,3,4 main girdle, Diamond pistons (-8cc/ 10.1), Scat forged 4.25" crank and H-beam rods (462ci). Jim Dove Aluminum Canadian Cobra Jet heads, bought new, taken apart, reworked with 2.15 intake & 1.72 exhaust, with hardened Manley valves and push rods (flow 330 on intake at .575). Comp Cams 292H. Hooker Super Comp headers-coated. Blue Thunder 2X4 intake with two new 715cfm Holley carbs, dual linkage and log. 427 fuel canister and fuel pump. New steel fuel tank, and a new fiberglass fuel tank, Crites Thunderbolt plenum with air hoses coming from inboard headlights to plenum. Grille and other chrome pieces re-chromed and stainless restored ($5500). MSD. Howe aluminum radiator. American Autowire 1964 Comet wiring kit with 22 fuse board. Frame tied and gusseted. Loops on driveshaft. Teardrop hood. Paint needs finishing. Have new trim and emblems, door handles, etc. Brand new windshield, new side glass (vent, door, quarter windows). No cage, but ready for one. Over $30K+ easily in this. Not easy to let go. Health is the biggest factor at 71. Good days are far and few between. Need someone to make a good home for her. Do not need help selling my 25 year project. No trades. Don't like to see it as a counter top for other small projects. Price is VERY FIRM. No sell-it comes apart to sell in pieces. My car is located in Florida. If you are serious about it, you need to come look at it. Simply couldn't buy all the parts for anywhere near the asking price, including the original cost of the car. Call or text. Again, don't ask how much I'll drop the price! (904) 307-5315
