Description of 1962 Mercury Monterey

Mercury Monterey

VIN: 2Z52X525811

I’m often asked where we find these unique, original vehicles. A close friend cruises parking lots of our local retirement homes, the Elks club, V.F.W halls and the back alleys of a well-known neighborhood here in Seattle with lots of retired Scandinavian fishermen. He can spot a seat belt dangling from a car door a mile away… He even notices when someone’s driving down the road with a turn signal left on just a little too long and he positively twitches with glee when passing a rig with metal bumpers.

If you’re in the market for a well-kept vintage daily driver please give this nice Mercury your kind attention. You’re also welcome to contact me with questions or to discuss a sale before the end of the Ebay listing. My name is Mark and I can be reached at 206/914-1173 (call or text).

CONDITION:
The photos really tell the Monterey’s story. It’s been here in western Washington State since new. A neighbor owned the car for the past five years and, after much coaxing, passed it along to one of my “bird dogs” a few weeks ago. It’s always been pampered and it really shows. I take pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. I believe, with the exception of a few mechanical replacements, it’s as stock and original as one could possibly hope to find.

The first question I’m always asked about is rust. Well, this classic cruiser HATES rust and you’ll be very hard pressed to find anything here to worry about. Yes, the Puget Sound region gets its share of drizzle, but rarely any snow so our winter roads are never salted. One snowflake and everyone stays home. Besides, this vehicle has not seen a winter road in many years! Climb over, under and throughout, I know you’ll come up smiling after you’ve seen the solid, original fenders, floorpans and trunk floor here! Aside from a few paint touchup scratches and scrapes, I have found NO evidence of past accident repair or replacement of body panels. I’m pretty sure this is original paint as there’s no overspray anywhere on the chrome moldings or rubber pieces. The solid steel wheels are wrapped with all-season radials and actually have ’59 Mercury wheelcovers (far cooler than the ’62 versions). This Monterey really is a blast to drive and absolutely turns heads everywhere you go!

One turn of the key and the strong 352 cubic-inch V8 fires right up with just a few pumps of the gas pedal, even when cold. The three-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, just like it should with NO slippage. The brakes feel fine and stop the car as expected. You really can’t beat the throaty sound of a 60’s V8 with dual exhaust!

Take another look at the interior pics.Have you ever seen that much real chrome on a dashboard before? All the switches and knobs appear to function properly. The seat upholstery and door panels are original and in decent, far above average, condition. Same goes for the headliner. Take note of the original Mercury floormats still protecting the exceptional carpets. While the stock Ford transistor AM radio is in place, the previous owner had a Kenwood AM/FM/CD tuner installed under-dash to bring the sound up to modern standards. You’ll also find a set of discreet amp meter and oil pressure gauges there along side the stereo so you won’t need to just depend on factory idiot lights. It’s been fun going over the original 1962 owner’s manual I received with the title. It’ll be stored in the glove compartment for the next caretaker.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. You’re welcome and encouraged to stop by to inspect, drive and make an offer. Please BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a nice vehicle from a respected Ebay Seller. My main goal is be sure you’re happy with your purchase - and your dealings with me – with the hope that you might be back again for another collector car. I will be sending the new owner a free & clear, unbranded Washington State title along with a Bill of Sale.

Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new Ebay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If I don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. As I’ve outlined above, the phone number to talk directly to me is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call or text any time during the auction. My name is MARK.You’re welcome and encouraged to come inspect & drive the car. You might also consider making an offer as many of my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that call and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end. I always reserve the right to sell during this period.

A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:

Full payment by cash (in person only) or certified funds will need to be received within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. I can accept credit or debit cards but will first need to invoice you and ask that you cover the 3.25% fee our card processor charges us. Please remember you’re bidding to buy, and I fully expect the winner to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later; you’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.

If you decide to have theMerc transported home, there are scores of companies to choose from. I ship vehicles regularly and am happy to make suggestions. In addition to quotes using the shipping tab here on the Ebay listing, I have access to the nationwide Central Dispatch site and can post the shipment for an amount YOU want to pay to attract a transporter for delivery. Ultimately, shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER.

I’m able to keep the Monterey stored free of charge for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day. All information described above is based on the observed condition when thelisting was placed. I've done my best to describe the car as thoroughly as possible and encourage bidders to contact me with questions.
