Description of 1970 Mercury Cougar Base coupe

Vehicle Details

This green 1970 Mercury Cougar has a 351 Cleveland 2v with an automatic transmission. Whoever owned it before left everything original except the carburetor has been upgraded to a 4bbl Holley and Edelbrock manifold. This car came with a 2 bbl carburetor originally. It starts, runs, moves and barely stops. The brakes need to be bled but I have driven it in the driveway. It sounds mean. When I put it in drive it wants to take off even after I adjusted the carburetor.

I am only selling this because I have 9 vehicles, mostly projects and I need room and want to pay for some of my college tuition. It will come with the clean title, original build sheet and manual. The title is still in the last owners name and I never signed it because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. The title says “0 miles” because that state didn’t require it. I’m still working on it and didnt register it. Turn signals work, headlights work, tail lights work-one bulb out on the right side, gas tank gauge works, temperature gauge works.the carburetor has an electric choke and that works also.

Take a look at all of the pictures to see the condition. It’s pretty solid all around except the quarter panels. They used that foam to fill it in and to keep the form but they’ll need replacing. The floors, trunk and underneath look pretty good, carpeting is still good. There is a new gas tank, new rear air shocks, new spark plugs, new distributor cap and rotor, new voltage regulator, new spark plug wires, new ignition coil, new pcv valve and an oil change. I replaced some of the vacuum wiring and capped off unnecessary lines. I’m running fuel system cleaner through also.

I have replaced some other parts that I’m sure I’m forgetting but take a look at the engine compartment. They previously ran extra radio wires and have a mount underneath where the ashtray went if you want to add an aftermarket radio but keep the original in there. The original ashtray is included and I will look to see if I have any extra parts. I think this had an ac compressor in the trunk when I got it but let me double check that. It’s huge!

I bought this car last year and I work on it often but I’m overwhelmed with projects. I will not take a low ball offer, so let’s be fair because I don’t need to sell this car. Please check out the book value on this car at kbb.com. Sold as is, no warranties. You will need to trailer it home, it cannot be driven, you will need to bleed the brakes and you’re good to go. I am currently flushing the fuel line out again.

The front seats are black and pretty sure they aren’t from this car originally. The rest of the interior is green, the backseat is in pretty good condition as well as the door panels. No roofliner, bows or rear deck lid cover. Dash cover and steering wheel have some cracks. Window handles don’t have the round thing at the end you would use to raise and lower but the handles are there and do work.

If you would like to hear it running and moving around my driveway, go to instagram and search my user name (ablastfromthepast74). I will also be listing a 66 Galaxie 500 bill of sale only and a 66 Thunderbird bill of sale only, once I get around to getting all of the pictures and info. I’m most likely selling 6 of the 9 vehicles I own in the next few weeks.

This car was purchased from Deleware and I paid to transport it to Massachusetts. Expect to have to do some bodywork, finish the tuneup, valve cover gaskets and whatever else it might need because I haven’t gotten any further. If you have any questions, please message me.

$250 deposit by PayPal immediately to hold the vehicle. Cash in person, no personal checks or money orders due to scammers.

The mileage says 47,601 but I’m thinking it’s 147,601 and I’m not sure it’s the original engine. The title does not have any mileage recorded on it, it says “0” so you will determine what the title says when you register it. Cash only and I will meet you at a bank locally if you prefer. If you have it transported to you I will help the driver load the Cougar to get it to you.
